"It must be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to plan, more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to manage, than the creation of a new system. For the initiator has the enmity of all who would profit by the preservation of the old institutions and merely lukewarm defenders in those who would gain by the new ones." Machiavelli
The Answer ManBy DIA, Section News
Wow. An article on how helpful mayor jennings is that announces his re-election. I guess all the ghost ticket stuff is getting to some people and we needed a nice story about the mayor.
It's the weekend so insert your own "this writes itself" commentary about Jerry being the "answer man". Oh, and look, the TU even made it into a re-election notice. If Jerry didn't pay for this, he should've. "People want instant gratification," he said. "People don't want an answer three weeks from now."Let me play the answer man and respond to the question of "how did such a ridiculous puff piece get written"? Times Union Offices Editor: Jerry is screaming at us about Lyons' reporting. He says he'll make sure no one advertises in our paper ever again if we don't stop this. Reporters: (collectively groaning and wishing they'd finished that novel) Editor: We need to write something nice about the mayor. Say he he is running for mayor again and that he he helps the people and that he he has what it takes. Reporter 1: (Joking) Let's run a bit about his radio show and have a headline that says, "When Citizens Call, Jennings Answers" Reporters: (laughter) Reporter 2: (joking) How about we just call him "the Answer Man"? Editor: That is it. A piece on the radio show, mention he is running for re-election and title it The Answer Man Reporters: (thinking to themselves "I wish the economy wasn't so bad and the newspaper industry wasn't dying. Oh well, that is why they invented scotch.)
