Per the TU, Aretakis and Burridge are dropping out of the Dem primary race for the 21st CD.  I am guessing that there will be one or two more who drop out in the near future.

Burridge and Brooks.... (none / 0) (#1)

According to Tracey Brooks' website, Burridge has now endorsed her and agreed to be a "Senior Advisor" to her campaign. Perhaps he can advise her how to fail to garner enough support to make the ballot much less finish first in a primary. Being fair, Tracey already knows how to lose an election, change her party enrollment from republican to democrat when it becomes politically convenient, and have the support of the McNulty relatives, Mayor Jerry and his "What Gun Violence?" crew yet still finish third in the petition count behind Paul Tonko (7000 signatures)and Phil Steck (6000 signatures -- only 5000 on the Democratic line though -- despite being the endorsed candidate of the Albany County Democratic Committee -- better luck next time little big man). Maybe if she can convince Aretakis to endorse her and Arthur Welser too, she can produce her own community political theatre rendition of "The Wizard of OZ" complete with the Cowardly Lion (Burridge), Tin Man (Aretakis), and Welser as the Scarecrow (or would he be better as ToTo?).
Just click your heels together three times Tracey/Dorothy and maybe Hillary will let you come back home after the race is over.

Normally, my neighborhood has the petition people descend upon us like locusts. Hasn't been the case in the last couple of years. This year, only one, and that only because the person collecting the signatures lived two doors down.

The old people who were involved the democratic committees/organizations are retiring or dying, and they have trouble finding anyone who has any interest in participating. An Irish/Catholic political machine isn't exactly a growth business in 2008.

TU story on the 21st is here.

In a nutshell, Brooks, Shahinfar, Steck, and Tonko turned in enough signatures to get on the ballot.  Each of them apparenly turned in more signatures than the minimum, but I would think that the overage only matters if they start playing challenge-the-petition.  We'll have to see if any of the candidates go that route.

(By the way, nice job misspelling Shahinfar's name, TU.)

That's on the Dem side.  On the Republican side, both Buhrmaster and Vasquez turned in their petitions.

Also in the TU (none / 0) (#3)

is this recent blog post.  It's about Sullivan, stating that he's going to run his campaign for $1,000.  I'm a bit confused, because in this morning's TU story (link in the previous comment), they couldn't even confirm that Sullivan turned in petitions.

I'll try to figure out Sullivan's status later on.
