Friday Afternoon Special - Board of Elections Incompetence

Democratic Board of Elections Commissioner Matt Clyne threw out the petitions of would-be Democratic challengers for Albany County Committee positions on Friday afternoon.

Clyne defended this action by referencing a technicality in the petition's format. Specifically, the petitions read that the position being sought was for "County Committee" as opposed to "County Democratic Committee".

I'm calling bullshit.

If this was an issue, then why were Republican and Conservative petition carriers given an opportunity to correct their petitions with the same format? The Democratic challengers were not afforded this same opportunity and it is important to note that Clyne threw out the petitions of his would-be opponent.

Those who signed these petitions had a clear understanding that they were signing for Democrats as there was language at the top of the petition that indicated so. Party positions should be decided by the duly enrolled voters of that party and not by a washed up hack lawyer living off his Republican father's name.

This issue should be taken to court without hesitation.

and because I pay little attention to these matters, could it be that the Rs had time to make their amendments before the cut-off date and the Ds filed too late and simply ran out of time to make their corrections?

But no one really cares, and that's the problem.  We keep talking about the machine, well the Democratic Elections commissioner has quite a great gig here.

A slate of candidates were run that would jeopardize the power of  MAtt Clyne as the BOE commissioner and he swiftly had his allies and loyal committee people challenge each and every one of those petitions.  In fact, he pushed out every single committee person who did not vote for him as elections commissioner when he ran last time.

Those who were not a threat to him, were allowed to make changes to their petitions, in fact were notified by BOE staff to come in and change them, but those that could ruin his 80,000.00 job, were not called and challenged.

Too bad, we will now have more incompetence at the BOE.

The worst part, we will now have individuals, who are chairs of their party, one countywide and one townwide, also in charge of the elections process.

Does anyone else have a problem with this? Because Clyne has shown that he is not fair, behind the scenes and since this is not printed in the TU its not news.

He has the best of both worlds here.  a great gig with allot of money and the ability to rig elections for his cronies in Bethlehem where he is the chair.  what else could be better?

What are you going to do? Sow Joe Bruno's lawn with salt? Slash Sandy Treadwell's tires?

The Republicans are utter and completely defeated, there's nothing left. You should be looking within the Democratic party for your next enemy, as the Democrats with unchecked power will be just as bad for the country as the Republican super-majorities were in the 90's.
