"It must be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to plan, more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to manage, than the creation of a new system. For the initiator has the enmity of all who would profit by the preservation of the old institutions and merely lukewarm defenders in those who would gain by the new ones." Machiavelli
Friday Afternoon Special - Board of Elections IncompetenceBy black templar, Section Diaries
Democratic Board of Elections Commissioner Matt Clyne threw out the petitions of would-be Democratic challengers for Albany County Committee positions on Friday afternoon.
Clyne defended this action by referencing a technicality in the petition's format. Specifically, the petitions read that the position being sought was for "County Committee" as opposed to "County Democratic Committee". I'm calling bullshit. If this was an issue, then why were Republican and Conservative petition carriers given an opportunity to correct their petitions with the same format? The Democratic challengers were not afforded this same opportunity and it is important to note that Clyne threw out the petitions of his would-be opponent. Those who signed these petitions had a clear understanding that they were signing for Democrats as there was language at the top of the petition that indicated so. Party positions should be decided by the duly enrolled voters of that party and not by a washed up hack lawyer living off his Republican father's name. This issue should be taken to court without hesitation.
