Saint Bruno

This weekend is the first annual Troy Pig Out. This will involve lots of pork. Does anyone else think it appropriate that this event marks Joe Bruno's retirement from the Senate?

I was listening to Alan Chartock the other day. He had so many good things to say about the "currently under indictment" Joe Bruno. Said he was a real "character" and everyone loved him even though he "came close to the line" at times. Yup, if you are a character, apparently it is ok to steal from the tax payers. Not surprising coming from a guy who called John Sweeney a "leading light". Of course Rex Smith has had plenty of glowing things to say about Saint Bruno. Don't want to lose a spot at the trough. At least one reader wasn't buying it.
Let's turn to the column on Sen. Bruno. No statement was made that with all of the legacies, many good and others questionable, "we must remember that Joe Bruno who had 'a lot of heart' was just a politician." It could have been added that he had an unmatched ego who had his name plastered all around the community as he expended taxpayers money.

It would be appropriate if each of those personal plaques was followed by the statement, "This was paid for by taxpayers money without any voting by the taxpayers or by their elected legislators." Thereby, the editor, in effect, endorsed the longtime Albany mode of operation that the end justifies the means.
End justifies the means.

That pork line made me roar & indeed the irony seems to either have been missed by Bruno or in his own subtle way may have been his subliminal parting message.

I'm surprised Rex published Van Hooft's letter, which was right on.

The one thing you didn't mention was the bus tour Bruno brought his supporters on showing them his many oink projects plastered with his name.

TLike the actors and actresses we see on the cover of the magazines at the checkout, Joe Bruno, like many politicians, is a poser.  When I first saw him, I was sure it was a cardboard cutout.  He was just perfect looking.  I had wondered how they got him to the event.  Possibly standing up in a U--Haul.  Not a wrinkle or a crease.  So perfect you would think he was the Duke of York reincarnate.

I don't care for career politicians much as they outlive their usefulness the day they are elected.  I do not feel as though I get my money's worth.  As soon as a politician is elected, he spends my money starting to campaign to get elected for the next term.

Politicians never really do what they were elected to do.  They are like a bunch of ENRON employees or bankers having fun with our money and mortgages.  I am against the death penalty, however, I might reconsider it for the career politicians.   How much has Nelson's bastard child cost the residents of Albany and New York in just yearly maintenance and upkeep of the Plaza?  Talk about laying an Egg.

Bruno has had a difficult personal life as I understand it, and I am sorry he had to go though that with his wife.  He'll have no trouble negotiating in the private sector.  The other side of the isle is just as bad and Tedesco should go along with Bruno.  These are the most inept group of people I have ever had the displeasure of seeing do nothing with my money.  They must have all gone to the same law school.

Tedesco wanted to waste my money to impeach Spitzer.  Tedesco has so much hot air he could power his own wind turbine. He truly likes watching himself on camera just as much as Bruno.

The Clintons set the standard for the Nation.  What Clinton did by his abuse of power was much worse than anything Spitzer did.  He hurt himself and family and maybe Tedesco was worried about himself, thinking he was next.  I think the man did protest too much.  It appears that Spitzer did the right thing.  If there was a fire at the end of the burning stick, he would have to go public with it; however, he appropriately kept his investigation quiet to protect Bruno's reputation.

Chartock is running a business and he is not ever going to say anything to ruin his relationship with any politician.  He might take a jab or two but nothing damaging.  That is the nature of news in the shrinking world of the rag.

This past winter a fellow plowing snow from a neighbor's driveway onto my property told me:  "I work for Bruno - You can't touch me".  The license plate was traced to a vacant apartment in a dumpy part of Troy.  The plate was not for the vehicle it was on.  It was registered to a different vehicle with a different address in Troy in an upper class neighborhood, with numerous vehicles.  Maybe Bruno should still be investigated under RICO.
