So, O'Neill has filed his petitions and will be running against McEneny as a Republican.

Haven't heard yet if the guy challenging Breslin has filed.

He will be filing today (none / 0) (#1)

My understanding is that both of the potential challengers to Breslin will be filing today.  I am sure that both of these guys will have just over the required number of signatures to allow them to be on the ballot.
I do know that both Charlie Voelker and David Weiss had a very small contingent of people carrying for them.  This is great, as neither of them have ever been involved in politics before and are just getting their feet wet in the process.
There are 1,000 signatures needed to get on the ballot for State Senate.  This may not seem like a great number of names, but look at the big picture.  Many of the people who could sign the Democratic petitions are either State or County workers.  They owe their jobs to someone, and many are afraid to sign.  Fear and Intimidation.  Sound familiar in Albany County?
Now, Neil can certainly challenge these petitions that his potential challengers have circulated.  It would certainly knock out each of them, its not a difficult thing to do.  But the intent of the people who signed is clear...they want a campaign and a debate of the issues and the record of a guy who has served over a decade without a challenger and without any need to defend his performance.
Neil is the only one of the 5 State Legislators in Albany County, the others are Assemblymen Reilly, Canestrari, Gordon and McEneny, who refuses to work full time for the people he represents.  He worked for the law firm of Girvin and Ferlazzo, he says that he left before the "investigation" of the retirement scandal began.  That is probably true, but he was employed there for years while the "practice" was going on.  He left that firm to work for one of the foremost union busting firms in that state, Hiscock and Barclay.
Neil should do the right thing and let the petitions stand and he should agree to debate the issues and let the people decide if they should re-hire him to his $100,000 part-time job.
I, for one, would like to see a fresh face, without a famous name and without a background in the dirty politics of this county to have a chance to represent us.

sounds pretty committed.  I heard that he collected over 1000 himself!!!  I wonder how many signatures Neil Breslin got all by himself?

Thanks for the notice.  I intend to work full time for the people of the 104th.  Many years ago, I interviewed for a job with the office of then Senate Minority leader Manfred Ohrenstein.  When I told them I didn't intend to have a law practice on the side, they showed me the door.  I like working for the people.  And that's what I'll do, if they'll have me.  There are two things on my agenda.  I am a good friend of the New York State Police.  They have earned my faith and trust.  And I will see that the fantastic health care intitutes that we have here in New York will get the resources they need to cure spinal cord injury and help all the brain damaged people we have coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan.  And that's a start.  Dysfunction?  Never heard of it.
