Convention Center Update

Another in the hard to believe column.
Leveille said the perception that the authority, which does have a small paid staff, would run out of money without additional aid from lawmakers is false.

“There’s money in place for staff for 50 years,” he said.
I'm glad we budgeted for having a convention center staff for 50 years even if we never have a convention center.

Have a nice weekend (I hope you weren't planning to visit one of our nice community centers because those are closed on weekends because there is no money in place for staff for them at all, so they sit empty).

Old Farts (none / 0) (#1)

It is interesting and disturbing that Albany does not have the Senior Center open on weekends, however, if there is little interest it probably does not pay to keep it open.  Did they run it open for a year and find no one came in?  Did they just guess?   There is no money to be made in running a senior center.  No benefit to anyone but older people.  They will soon die before they realize that for their huge tax dollar they get jiped.  Yep my father an 86 year old WWII B-17 pilot who was shot down and got his crew of 10 down safely on one of four engines just over the enemy line.  Fifty Percent of those guys did not come back.  He went back to England by boat got another plane and continued to fly missions.  They are just a bunch of old farts that don't deserve anything. How soon we forget!

It wouldn't hurt to build a new senior center with all the vacant schools in Albany there should be plenty to chose from.  A Senior Center needs to be all on one floor.  A good work force, good and safe schools, safe neighborhoods, good parks, and music and the arts.  Those are the first things the City should place its effort on.  The senior population will be increasing over the next 50 years and nothing has been done to plan for it.   The Planning Commission's idea of planning seems to be what they are going to have for lunch tomorrow.

DIA I am sure is talking about the teen recreation centers, you know, the ones the city couldn't cough up $25k to keep open on weekends.

It's really something that the city and a majority of its council were ready to bond nearly $8 Million for garbarge, but couldn't come up with a measly $25K for our kids, who are our future.

A Muse your father sounds like one hellavu guy. (none / 0) (#3)

Those guys in World War II were really something!  I get a chance to talk to them when I go to the VA.  I was a pilot in Korea and got shot down pretty damn quick.
