I thought it was interesting that this was filed from Albany, NY.

About This Ex-Cop Duarte (none / 0) (#2)
by Dan Van Riper on Thu May 22, 2008 at 06:10:46 AM EST

Okay, let's see.  These smiley face killers are committing "the perfect crime" by using water to obscure any stray evidence, they use drugs that can't be detected, they commit multiple murders without any witnesses any time ever... despite all the "murders" taking place in lively urban bar zones, and they coordinate their crimes by killing their victims simultaneously in different locations.

So this retired NYPD cop Duarte, who is running around advancing this theory, says the killers are "not smart."

Right.  Maybe we need to take a hard look at Duarte.

I'm just putting it out there (none / 0) (#3)

because it was discussed here previously.

I thought that "not smart" comment was pretty ridiculous myself.

However, I also don't find it plausible that all these guys are accidentally drowning.  However, I have nothing other than my gut instinct to support that concept.

Something like that happened at my alma mater (none / 0) (#4)

a few years ago (and a few years after I graduated).  Everyone just figured it was a tragic drowning.  Reading that article creeped me the fuck out.  It mentions that there were 3 cases in NY that they're thinking might be connected, but it doesn't list where those 3 were...

I wasnt going to post but..... (none / 0) (#5)

I think I found some proof as to a group that may be connected.

These people have got to be evil criminal masterminds to come up with such a devious tag as the smiley face as their signature.  And given how prolific their signature mark is- they must have legions of followers throughout the country willing to do their bidding.

I did a wikipedia search of the notorious smiley faces and found some very shocking references. This goes back decades!

Smiley face stickers were the calling cards of the werewolf in "The Howling" in 1981. Obviously these killers are demonic.

Smiley faces are the symbol of "acid house" music- the hypnotic music played at Raves. Smiley faces were found craved in tabled in the UK in the 1980s.  Hmmm, hypnosis. Maybe that's why these hasn't been anything except for booze in the victims blood.  They were hypnotized.

In the 1995 film Virtuosity a smiley is used to mark a restaurant where the virtual serial killer "Sid 6.7" was hiding.

In Blazing Saddles, when Hedley Lamar is enlisting his criminal army, the KKK members wear smiley faces and have a nice day on the back of their sheets.

The film Forrest Gump (Robert Zemeckis, 1994) comically featured the smiley being "invented" when the main character wipes his mud-covered face off with a yellow t-shirt, and says "Have a nice day", inspiring a struggling businessman with the makeshift design.

And finally, to really show how evil these bastards are http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Bon_Jovi_Have_a_Nice_Day.jpg

Serious stuff, these evil Smiley Faces are everywhere.  The Feds shouldn't be going after terrorists- they should devote their resources to stamping out Smilies!

you don't have to take smiley faces seriously.

but this kid certainly did:

now i know what to do when i want to go on a killing spree and not get caught.  i just have to make sure my trademark is something innocuous, like a "smiley face", then nobody will take my crimes seriously.

maybe i'll use teddy bears.  or puppies.

everybody likes puppies.

Are you saying (none / 0) (#7)

that this stupid SOB is involved in the so called smiley face killings or that the smiley face itself is so demonic that it causes people to kill and build pipe bombs?

I am a little confused

If you are going to use a symbol to mark your kills wouldnt you use something a little more unique than something that is used by everything from Forrest Gump to Wallmart?

Whats next stop sign murders where the murderer kills at a street corner and plants a stop sign?

no, the pipe bomb kid is definitely not involved, but he's proof that you can be a deranged killer and use smiley faces as your trademark.

and no, if i was a serial killer i wouldn't want to use something so unique.  it would be more fun to use a smiley face and have people like you not take me seriously while i kept on murdering.

that way if i ever am caught, you'd all look like fools for doubting me.

you should first get a job at wallmart and then tell the police that the smiley faces told you to murder.
