The TU has the money totals. Looks like there are 5 or 6 people who all are in the same ball park of $100-$200,000. Or as it is known in the 20th, chump change.

As the TU spins... (none / 0) (#1)

Steck has only actually raised a few hundred dollars more than Brooks, and so what!  The guy has put up 50 large of his own for Pete's Sake!

Anyway, dollars raised is not going to be the determining factor in this raise, either is spinning on past political affiliation.  However, if money raised were going to be an issue, it is clear who would be even more of a loser than we initially thought...the Barack Wannabee.

I am a Dem but, personally I favor the Republican and fuel company owner James Buhrmaster.  I don't know if Buhrmaster can act but, if he can, he's got my vote!  Maybe it's because I just saw the movie, "There Will Be Blood".  It was the story of an industrial oil speculator.  Well, on second thought, I changed my mind; the last thing we need is another oil guy representing us in Congress...another Bush iraq-laky.  You want to laugh but, this is notsofunny!

not spin.  We can't trust a Republican (Brooks) who, once the winds have changed, became a Democrat.  Not with a war with Iran looming if McCain or Hillary win.  The world can't afford for us to be represented by a Lieberman.

Steck made a loan to the campaign. Why?  It's obviously not because he's having trouble raising money.  My guess- It was to get the campaign moving before the checks started rolling in. It's a short primary campaign.

Obama's the loser??? Heh.

Steck has been able to raise (none / 0) (#3)

about the same amount as Brooks, leaving out his personal contribution.

And he did it without Brooks' access to the Clinton, and less so Jennings, network of check-writers.

The rest of the candidates seem to be left in the dust, fund-raising-wise.

While Tonko is still hitting the hustings as if he was running, he's apparently $200K behind in fund-raising, with the primary four and a half months away.

Every day he waits, he becomes less electable.

The Democrats are the party of the people.

I am so unimpressed with this field of candidates.  I wish that Brian Stratton would re-consider his withdrawl from the race and enter.  I think that would put this baby to bed.

I personally feel that the candidate should have a proven track record of serving the people on a more local level before getting this plum job.

I agree that the democratic party is the party of the people and that we need to elect a dem...just not any of these, come on, Tonko, do your thing.

Yeah the war with Iran is coming (none / 0) (#5)

I think Steck and Brooks both represent the same agenda. They both will be puppets in D.C. We need someone who is going to produce jobs. We need someone to be honest (Mittleman) about what is happening throughout Albany County and America. If you read Mittleman's agenda he is the only one that has truly addressed the issues. We need someone who an ambassador and can explain to our enemies that want peace, but if they test us we are going to destroy everything within their boarders.

Remember Tehran has a very young movement that is against the Iranian president. Those Iranian kids don't want to fight America and they will take control of the government. Iran is strong and they were strong when we helped Iraq fight them during the Iraq-Iran war. Iran's government not the Iranian people are the Al Qeada insurgency in Iraq. The Iranian's pushed Carter around in the 1970s now he playing kiss kiss with Hammas in Cairo. Imagine if George W. was president the Iranian hostage crisis, he would have wiped Tehran off the map. We are Americans not push overs that is how we gain our independence from Britain.

I think about those Iraqi soldiers that I trained. Very shortly we will ask those same soldiers to lead an invasion into Iran. Amercian soldiers invaded and conquer Iraq for America's security. Iraqi soldiers will have to invade and conquer Iran for Iraq's security. Moscow and Beijing are going to decide if we have World War III. We are going to take Tehran the same way we took Baghdad. They can't stop our blitz the Baghdad blitz was merely practice. We need someone in congress that can meet with those Iranian kids who do not want to go to war with us. It does not matter who is in the Oval office. Once the President gives the order to that U.S. Army General "Hell and Beyond" is coming. We are destroying anything and everything that stands between our blitz and Tehran. George W knows what we got and we showed about less than a percent of that during the Iraq war. Beijing and Moscow better take a long hard look at it's neighbors with "billion" plus populations. The United States of America is in control and will be for centuries to come. We must continue to internally strengthen ourselves and build our military to be one of the most lethal and deadly killing machines of the planet.

"Imagine if George W. was president the Iranian hostage crisis" .....he would have acted decisively to invade Brazil, convinced everyone they were the actual hostage-takers, and convinced everyone iran was actually our ally.

NY-21: Q1 Fundraising Report (none / 0) (#6)
by Soundpolitic on Thu Apr 17, 2008 at 05:15:57 PM EST
Read it on DailyKos or The Albany Project.

What I'll say here is that the numbers alone show that Steck has outperformed his less-than-worthy opponent Tracey Brooks by taking in way more than expected.  And what the numbers don't show as that this may not be enough to offset Darius Shahinfar's movement on the netroots, something the Brooks-loving media on here won't pick up on, but you will.

And I still support Phil Steck for Congress!

(tried posting this yesterday but was having problems)

you and I are generally on the same page but "left in the dust" is hardly accurate.

Phil Steck started first raised a very respectable $150k plus kicking in $50k of his own. He spent about $50k leaving him with about $150k.

Tracey Brooks started second and raised about $175k, more than Mr. Steck, but no $'s of her own so a total less than Mr. Steck, and spent about $25k leaving her tied with Steck at about $150k cash on hand.

Mr Mittleman kicked in $100k of his own, raised almost nothing, and spent half his money leaving him behind at $50k cash on hand.

Darius Shahinfar started last, kicked in $50k of his own, and raised about $30k in just 3 weeks of campaigning with no real push for fund raising. He spent virtually nothing in the 1st quarter leaving him with about $80k cash on hand.

So Steck and Brooks have about $70k cash on hand advantage, a very, very small number in today's fund raising environment.

This race is wide, wide open and nobody has left anybody in the dust so far. It has all just gotten started.

So let's have some clear persepctive, ok?

You are correct that this campaign is all about the people of the 21st district.

Luckily, the people have several good choices to pick from and by September I think we will have a very clear picture of who the people of this district think will perform the best in representing their interests in Washington.

I, of course, think Darius
Shahinfar
is the best man for the job but I trust the voters of this district to make the right choice after a summer of getting to know the qualities of all the candidates.

Full Disclosure: I am Chair of the Darius Shahinfar for Congress Campaign Committee in NY-21.
