Cheers for Newark

These people have had to put up with more corruption than most. A little justice must feel alright.
A federal jury convicted ex-Mayor Sharpe James and his former mistress Wednesday of corruption stemming from the cut-rate sale of city land.

James was convicted on all five charges he faced, including fraud and conspiracy. Under federal guidelines, he could face seven to eight years in prison, but a judge could impose as much as 20 years on some individual counts.

James could also be stripped of pensions that provide a six-figure annual income.

James is probably a crook, but (none / 0) (#1)

whenever I see a Bushite US attorney going after a Democratic politician, I have a Siegelman moment of doubt.

This USA is the same ambitious Republican who tried to dirty up Sen. Bob Menendez on the eve of the 2006 election.

And around here, the USA has refrained from charging Boss Bruno with a well-deserved corruption indictment.

The Democrats are the party of the people.

Street Fight (none / 0) (#2)

There's a great documentary out about the 2002 mayoral race between Sharpe James and Corey Booker called Street Fight. You can rent it from Netflix.

James was/is a real dirty character.  What was interesting about the documentary was all of the big name Dems who came out to support James when he was in the primary of his life against Booker.
