Bush knew of and approved torture

ABC News finally got dubya to admit on camera that he knew and approved torture from the White House.

http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/LawPolitics/Story?id=4635175&page=1

The Bush money quote:

"I'm aware our national security team met on this issue. And I approved." - GEORGE W. BUSH

"As first reported by ABC News Wednesday, the most senior Bush administration officials repeatedly discussed and approved specific details of exactly how high-value al Qaeda suspects would be interrogated by the CIA."

Who regularly participated in these `Torture Talks' in the National Security Council?

Condolezza Rice

Don Rumsfeld

John Ashcroft

Geogre Tenet

Colin Powell

What kills me about all this is the Bush crew always repeats, whenever they are asked by the press: "The United States does not torture."  Or when they are asked about a specific technique they claim "it's legal".

The level of mendacity is astounding, simply astounding.

The Powell money quote:

"I'm not aware of anything that we discussed in any of those meetings that was not considered legal."  - COLIN POWELL

Sorry chief, just cause you got some muddled legal opinion from some pinhead freakshow law professor (Read John Yoo) that claims the Geneva Conventions are `quaint', doesn't mean you get to beat on people and break their bones and kill them when they are in custody.

George Bush and his star chamber crew is desperate to try to use the cover of the Department of Justice to claim...it's legal, it's legal!  Sorry Lord Douchebag, that's why they call them legal OPINONS.  If a court, or a legislature hasn't yet had their say on it - IT AIN'T GONNA FLY.  It ain't legal - its just your freaking lawyer SAYING its legal.

And for Christ's sake even Lady Douchbag herself, John f'ing Ashcroft questioned why the `Torture Talks' were being held in the goddamn White House.

The Ashcroft money quote:

"Why are we talking about this in the White House? History will not judge this kindly."  - JOHN ASHCROFT

Condi not only prefers dominatrix wear, she seemed to be particularly juiced on torture talk.

The Rice money quote as spoken to the CIA on the NSC's torture instructions:

"This is your baby.  Go do it."  - CONDOLEZZA RICE

What the hell does this have to do with Democracy in Albany?

In case you hadn't noticed, the Mayor of the fair city of Albany, while registered as a Democrat, is actually a Republican.  This is crystal clear from his support of Republican gubernatorial candidate George Elmer Pataki in 2002 over candidate Carl H. McCall.
http://www.democracyinalbany.com/story/2006/10/14/172734/42

Jerry's Republican lean is also clear from the Mayor's 2006 choice of Chief of Police - Jimmy Tuffey, a man straight off from 8 years working in various fat appointed positions in the Pataki administration.

Lil'Jimmy is also a Republican - clear as day from his regular use of the Bush Trademarked Phrase "ACTIONABLE INTELLIGENCE" - to his witholding public documents and cover-ups of any misconduct by the APD

right down to his using the Bill of Rights and the 4th Amendment as bird cage liner.

We all know about Jerry's attitude on the rule of law and the rules that everybody is supposed to follow (except in Jerryland):

The loyal Bushies and the inhabitants of Jerryland love to mouth words about the being tough on crime and lawbreakers, except when it comes to their own actions.  In Bushland or Jerryland you're free to interpret the law any way ya want as long as it helps you explain your obviously illegal behavior:

Here's to 2009, and a rapid departure from Bushville and Jerryland.

Yep... the truth hurts doesn't it Flewy?

Here's what the NY Times said:

(W)hat happened at Abu Ghraib was no aberration, but part of a widespread pattern. It showed the tragic impact of the initial decision by Mr. Bush and his top advisers that they were not going to follow the Geneva Conventions, or indeed American law, for prisoners taken in antiterrorist operations.
The investigative file on Bagram, obtained by The Times, showed that the mistreatment of prisoners was routine: shackling them to the ceilings of their cells, depriving them of sleep, kicking and hitting them, sexually humiliating them and threatening them with guard dogs -- the very same behavior later repeated in Iraq.

Here's some of what happened to Mr. Dilawar, a 22 year old taxi driver from Yakubi, Afghanistan, who weighed 122 pounds:

A black hood pulled over his head limiting his ability to breathe

Knee strikes to the abdomen

Over 100 peroneal (a nerve behind the kneecap) strikes

Shoved against a wall

Pulled by his beard

Bare feet stepped on

Kicks to the groin

Chained to the ceiling for extended hours, depriving him of sleep

Slammed his chest into a table front

The New York Times reported that: On the day of his death, Dilawar had been chained by the wrists to the top of his cell for much of the previous four days. "A guard tried to force the young man to his knees. But his legs, which had been pummeled by guards for several days, could no longer bend. An interrogator told Mr. Dilawar that he could see a doctor after they finished with him. When he was finally sent back to his cell, though, the guards were instructed only to chain the prisoner back to the ceiling. "Leave him up," one of the guards was quoted as saying. Several hours passed before an emergency room doctor finally saw Mr. Dilawar. By then he was dead, his body beginning to stiffen. It would be many months before Army investigators learned a final horrific detail: Most of the interrogators had believed Mr. Dilawar was an innocent man who simply drove his taxi past the American base at the wrong time.

Dilawar died from his abuse on December 10, 2002.

I don't expect that the current Congress will investigate the actions of this administration in regards to officially sanctioned torture.  The morally correct thing to do is investigate and prosecute.  However, since this Congress has not acted strongly to end the war in Iraq, and every other investigation of the administration seems to be a battle of strongly worded letters, that leads me to believe that there will not be an adequate investigation.  It's more likely to happen after November, but only that - more likely, not a certainty.

Contacting McNulty about all this certainly can't hurt (mike.mcnulty@mail.house.gov).

And specifically for one flew east: personally, I wouldn't mind if you kept flying on.  Your first reaction is to make a joke, but what, exactly, is funny about torture?

If the presidential election is disrupted this fall then what. As of right now Barack Obama or Hilary Clinton will be the next President of the United States. If a terrorist attack does not happen or Al Gore does not enter the race nothing serious will happen. The current U.S. Congress is sorry and that is why I hope Al Gore takes control and runs. That is what our economy is waiting for. Gore is my hero and he will go down in history as bringing America together if he runs. There is no one in America that can beat Gore even if he waits and joins the Race later on. I still have the feeling that something is going to happen. JFK was the last Senator to be elected President and I just do not believe that 2008 history will change. The democrat party is divided and I do not believe democrats will pull together on election day. The old past of the democratic party is going to show its self on election day. McCain will be impeached, before he even assumes office. If McCain is elected the major third party is coming.  It will be a spin off of the democratic party.
