As a woman of color who has worked in the Albany Police Department for years I was dissapointed to see Chief Tuffey blame the low Marole on Chris Messley.  There is low marole because of him and how he treats the men and woman of the department. Reecently there was an incident where an Assistant Chief sexually harassed a woman we work with and he did nothing about it.  Everyone in headquarters knows about it and the poor thing was upset but he did nothing. What are we the woman who work here to think? what about our morale when he covers these things up??
Chief Tuffey walks around angry and mean and doesn't even say good morning to anyone he just grunts at them.  I hear him yelling at the people who work here everyday. That's why morale is low. He treats the people he works with like dirt and the  demands they treat the public in a different way. It's hypocritical and it is the reason why things are happening the way they are. I am embarrased to be part of this department right now but it isn't because of the people here. They do a good job and trry there best but he is impossible to please. I wish he would just leave.

Tuffey holds an appointed position; he has not lasted long at any of his previous jobs.  I would encourage you and your colleagues to continue doing your job in a professional and competent manner, reporting any incidents of sexual harassment or other problems as per your policies.  No report = it did not happen.  Report, no action, press = another "incident" that add up to a point that it's impossible for the politicians to ignore the public outcry.

Trail of destruction of morale and backwards guidance into the dark ages is as follows:

  1.  Retires from APD; becomes a confidential investigator in the New York State Department of Labor

  2.   Public Safety Commissioner for the City of Cohoes.

  3. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as Assistant Commissioner for the Office of Public Protection.

7/2004: Director of SEMO

12/05: Chief, APD.

Tick, tock -  time's up at APD!
Heat's on - time to move on to the next political appointment!

of anonymous stuff about how public officials suck, the basic wariness question is: Is the anonymous dissing plausible, given what is known generally about the criticized public official.

In this case, it's well beyond plausible to credible.

Soares should be interested in doing a public integrity investigation about this, and the other APD problems lately.

The Democrats are the party of the people.

Why should Soares be any more interested now then before?
