A group of Congressional candidates and military thinker types have put together what they call "A Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq."  Their web site is here.  Here is an overview of what they are on about:

Our plan will:
End U.S. Military Action in Iraq
Use U.S. diplomatic power
Address humanitarian concerns
Restore our Constitution
Restore our military
Restore independence to the media
Create a new, U.S.-centered energy policy

I haven't read the full plan yet, but I intend to over the coming weeks.  Regardless of the details of this plan, I think it's important that there is an alternate viewpoint in our national discussions, other than the "we can never leave" view of Bush and McCain and significant parts of the media.

Looking at the list of endorsees, I see that of the candidates for the 21st CD, Shahinfar has endorsed the plan.  Later on, I will do some research and see what the other candidates are saying about this plan.  I'll put any additional info in the comments.

to everyone's attention.

The "Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq" has garnered the support of over 40 democratic challengers around the country.

As soon as we heard about it Darius Shahinfar and I sat down and read through it, discussed it, and saw that it clearly addressed many of the same concerns we had been talking about the last several years. As Darius put it... "Finally... something that cuts through the false narratives and deals with real solutions." Specifically he was pleased to see that it dealt with both long and short term solutions, not just band-aids and not just rhetoric, in Iraq, in Afghanistan, AND, critically, here at the home so we don't just get ourselves into the same mess all over again somewhere else.

I met Daris Shahinfar 4 years ago when he walked into our local Democracy for the Hudson-Mohawk Region meeting looking for ways to get involved here at home after the 2004 election. He had taken a leave of absence from his job as Deputy Albany County Attorney and gone to northern Virginia for 3 months to run Kerry's regional campaign office there. He came home looking to making a difference and committed to doing what it takes to change the direction of this country.

We both got involved in Kirsten Gillibrand's successful campaign for Congress (man! was that ever a sweet victory!) and Darius subsequently went to work for her running her Saratoga Springs office as her Regional Representative for the Capital District and Saratoga region.

I was excited as could be when he told me he was considering running in the 21st and am committed to busting my hump the next 6 months to get him elected as our Representative. Darius Shahinfar will bring to the 21st District the same dedication, hard work, commitment to open government and constituent services that we have seen Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand bring to the 20th District.

It is time for real change in Washington and we can be a big part of that by sending Darius Shahinfar to Congress.

Peace,

Andrew
Full Disclosure: I am Chair of the Darius Shahinfar for Congress Campaign Committee in NY-21.
