How come Newman? (none / 0) (#1)
by champlain on Fri Mar 28, 2008 at 08:37:07 PM EST
Why is it you can't ever post about real issues Newman? Why are you always lying in the gutter and dribbling on about who's sthuping who?

Ol'Wind Bag Joey Bruno been sthuping dozens of women other than his wife for the last several decades, hell, it even gets reported in the f'ing newspapers http://www.villagevoice.com/news/0740,barrett,77981,2.html
- but ya never seem to be interested in Bagman Joey's peccadilos.

Tan and orangy Jerry Jennings sthups his various girlfriends (not his wife) - all very well known around town, but you're curiously silent about all Jer's running around.

How about you cool it with the rumor mill crap and post about some real issues rather than ugly gossip?

Sorry Champ, I am a little old fashion when it comes to certain things.  As Spitzer so recently demonstrated, a man in a position of power who is willing to play the field on his wife is also tends to be a scum bag in other areas of his professional life.

You may think that an Assemblyman who screws (or  sthups) his intern is OK. I think that it demonstrates a serious character flaw.

I will also remind you of two things: 1) It is potentially a sexual harassment lawsuit and as tax payers it is our business as we are the ones who will be paying any settlement.

Isn't one of the criteria for a harassment lawsuit a man taking advantage of his position of power over a subordinate?   Assembly man, intern. Power. Subordinate.  An intern, by the way, depends on the member providing a good report in order to complete the internship and graduate from college.  Looks like a good law suit to me.

2) After the Boxley episodes the Assembly enacted a zero fraternization policy. Last session an intern was removed from the internship program and an Assembly member was subject to discipline when there wasn't any sex proven.

As for Joe Bruno, I don't really have much to say about him, except that he is another one who adequately demonstrates that a shyster in his personal life is also a shyster in his public.

As for Jerry. I havent hear anything after he got married.

I have heard this rumor now from several different sources. I certainly hope that it isn't true but if it is we should all be outraged.  We deserve a hell of a lot better, don't we? Or are OK with all of this Champ?

When it's some public figure you want to see tarred and feathered, you're paint yourself a self-rightous, moral crusader for justice.

When its a public figure you like or support (the Tan and Orangy Hizzoner of Albany) you conveniently "haven't heard anything" or as with Boss Joey Bruno you "don't really have much to say."

How terribly convenient.

You say you are "a little old fashion when it comes to certain things" -- I guess from your political perspective that translates as favoring 50-something white male alcoholic felonious wife beaters (Fancy John Sweeney)over electing more bright and able women to Congress (Kristen Gillibrand).

You're a propagandist and a rumor monger who likes to push sleaze and innuendo.

Send me an email when you think you're ready to get away from being a gutter attack dog and would like to discuss some real issues and the real problems with democracy in Albany.

We should know (none / 0) (#5)

Although I disagree with Alfred on allot of things, I do think that people should no the personal doings of their elected leaders. I say this because allot of people in Albany trade sex for power and favors. This is why are government is in the mess its at because we have people who lack credentials running the show while people with ideas and competence are forced to leave.

Here is a perfect example. I was part of the Assembly intern class of 2000. At the time, I was attending Fordham University and was at the top of my class. I had a dream of working for the people of New York. When I got to Albany, I was disgusted by the way things actually work. I saw numerous girls who lacked basic skills promoted to high positions due to sleeping around with powerful people. On the dark side of things, in 2001, a close friend of mine was date raped by the chief of staff of a powerful Assemblyman (not Boxley).

She was somewhat naive and was invited out by him to Justin's on Lark Street. He continued to buy her drinks all night and took her back to her place on Ontario Street. When they got there, he invited himself in and started putting the moves on her. She resisted and he said that he could break her or make her life grand if she hooked up with him. She was drunk at the time and felt harrassed but made the bad choice of sleeping with him because she was threatened.

She called me up after this happened and I told her to go to the police. They refused to prosecute the case because she said yes, even though she was harassed into doing so. She never recovered from that day and to this day can't hold a relationship because of what happened.

After seeing this first hand, I have no respect for people who use their power to get sex. Some woman come to Albany to use sex for their advantage while a many you woman are forced to do these acts due to the negative repercussions of not doing anything.

I think the way people use sex in Albany for their career and for power demonstrates their character. Its like we have a bunch of drunken frat boys and their sluts running the show. Its no wonder our state is the laughing stock of the union. Our leaders get away with this because outside of Albany, no one knows or cares about their leaders. If they knew what happened to my friend, they would be appalled. One day that could be your daughter. How would you feel if she went to Albany looking to change the state and ended up being treated like a whore. How would you feel if your 19 year old baby was being force to have sex with 40 year old man. How would you feel if your daughter couldn't even hold a relationship because she is still shell shocked from being forced into sex and then treated like a pariah.

I'm glad to hear that fucking interns is a part of "progressive" politics. I guess once you have power, it's ok to use it to get some 19 year old tail.

Is it sleazy to talk about? Sure. But politicans with secrets aren't politicans who are going to lead us beyond the status quo.

It's interesting that a tool like champ would use "But Bruno and Jennings do it" as an excuse.

Champ:

I think that I made it clear several times that hell would freeze over before I voted for or supported Sweeney.  Again, another great example of someone who is a swine in his personal life also being a swine in his public.

My problem was with someone in the State Police illegally releasing material that could not be substantiated.  My problem with Ms Gillibrand was that she is an insider trying to pass herself an outsider and a `woman of the people."    I think I was clear and consistent on that as well.

As I said, I haven't heard any rumors regarding the mayor and girl friends. Maybe because there aren't any. Maybe its because there are so many people like you, Champ, who think it is OK and it isn't talked about.  And rest assured if Jennings was chasing interns around the city I would have a problem with that. Again, it's our business because we are the ones who are going to be forking out the money for settlements in these cases.

I support Jennings where I think he deserves support. I don't support him where I don't think he does.  Bruno? I haven't paid attention to Rennselear County politics in a long time.  The only thing I will say about Bruno is he is an old time street fighter who apparently is smart enough to know what is legal and what isn't.

Chasing interns around is text book sexual harassment. It is power over vulnerability. The perception that the a woman has to sleep with the boss or else.   It is behavior that we should not accept and that we should all find reprehensible.

Or are you one of those guys who supports womans rights as long as the rules don't apply to a middle aged man chasing around a young woman who works for him?   Do you have a poster of the Hero of Chapaquidick in your bedroom?

Champ, I am inclined to try to find agreement whenever I can.  Can we agree that we deserve better governance then we are getting?  Can we agree that all levels of government should be transparent?  Can we agree that we deserve honest, open and competent government?

We may disagree on policy and approach but we should all be able to agree on the core basics like our elected leaders should be people of honesty and integrity.

I would email you, Champ, to see if we have more common ground on which to build but you don't post your email address. I do. Send me an email.

I am not going to deny that my personal opinions color my views. I never claimed to be "fair and balanced" or impartial. Or present both view points, for that matter.

Do I look closer at politicians that I don't agree then I do those that I either agree with or don't really care about? Absolutely. I am sure, Mr. Progressive Democrat, that you know and care more about the sins of Joe Bruno and the Republican Senate then you do the sins of Shelly Silver and the Senate Democrats.

As I said before: Can't we agree that our elected leaders should be men and women of honesty and integrity?  Shouldn't we all demand that those, regardless of party, who fail to meet those core requirements be censured and replaced?

When we can't trust the people we elect then why elect them at all?

I am not impartial. You are not impartial. It is important that we look closely at those we support and those that we don't and continue to point out what we precieve to be their faults. Be it Assemblymen chasing young skirts around or anyone else.
