Dan O'Connell must be rolling over in his grave. Imagine the idea of having an impartial elections commissioner in Albany? Even more outrageous, imagine a popular elected Democrat calling for as much? But wait, there is more.
Commissioner Matthew Clyne has been asked to appear at a Dec. 4 caucus of the County Legislature's Democratic majority to discuss his qualifications for another two-year term. Legislator Christopher Higgins of Albany wrote Clyne last month asking he address a state audit of the board and mistakes on the absentee ballots. Higgins said Wednesday he has stewed since September over Clyne's support at the party's judicial nominating convention for Appellate Division Associate Justice Anthony Carpinello, a Republican, for Supreme Court.

"I question his loyalty," Higgins said, and "how he's going to handle any Democratic candidate's petitions when they are submitted before the board and possibly challenged."
Well said Mr. Higgins.

And on a side note, why in the hell are these guys up for a raise? Are you kidding me? $85K a year to do nothing and they get a raise? Is it any wonder we have a budget crisis at every level of government and your taxes keep going up?
The controversy has surfaced as the two seek reappointment next month and a $3,300 raise to $85,729.
For those who might think this raise is necessary I say no. And if either of these flawed candidates can't do the job for the current salary, how about we see if anyone else wants to?

Here is your Moment of Higgins.

Matt Clyne has to go.  He is an embarassment to the party that he represents.  I am suprised that Dan McCoy didn't somehow take the lead on the Carpenillo endorsement.  How stupid can anyone be to come out and publicly endorse the candidate from the Republican party when you are the 1st Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party?
Clyne has proven himself to be a person with no management or leadership ability at the Borad of Elections. Chris Higgins should be lauded for his leadership on this issue.  I just wish that the public could be at the caucus when Clyne is asked to answer some questions!
