On Monday night, there was a debate between Buhrmaster and Tonko, candidates for the the 21st Congressional District seat, at Albany Law.  The TU mentioned beforehand that the debate was happening.  After the debate, nothing.  No recap, no article that I can find.

Last night, the candidates debated again in a meet-up that was co-sponsored by the Times Union and broadcast on WMHT.  Today, there was a recap article in the TU.

I guess the TU "did not have enough space" to inform its readers about Monday's debate.  I'm not aware of a lack of space on the TU's infinite number of blogs, but I'm just a simple news reader, and surely there are journalistic conventions at play of which I am not aware.

Looks like the TU decided to cover its own sponsored event, and downplay the other event.  But again, I'm sure they have advertising related ... ahem, excuse me, I man valid reasons which I just wouldn't understand.

Right on, Layman.  There's absolutely no excuse for no follow-up on to a debate that was open to the public after reporting it would happen, and the contrast in their A1 front-page coverage of the debate they sponsored makes it even worse.

The televised debate last night was poorly moderated and too short.  Half of the questions asked weren't even questions at all.  And nothing was said there that wasn't said at the Albany Law School Debate on Monday.  I think it's worth remembering that the TU knew how to get to the exact location the debate was held, because it was the same location put on by the same people who sponsored the widely covered exchange between DA David Soares and his challenger, Roger Cusick.

As far as I saw, Monday's debate had real substance and was the media-attention-grabbing (or self-back-patting) event that the Thursday's was.  To them, it was an opportunity to put some of their reporters on the air and show Rex Smith smiling.  And judging by their stuttering performances, those reporters should stick to the newsroon.

Me?  I'll stick to blogging when it comes to getting the whole story out there.  If it's a report on Monday's debate you're looking for, then look no further, my friend...

The TU hasn't gotcha covered...but I do :-)
