State of the Conti

My man Richard Conti has outdone himself in his response to the State of the City memo.
“We have to look at the expenditure side of the budget,” he said. While Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s proposed budget includes a $1.4 million increase in aid for Albany, Conti said that falls far short of what the city wanted begged for.

“Government can always run more efficiently,” Conti said. “The solution to all our problems is not just more revenue.”
This might lend more credence to the popular theory that Conti is in fact DIA.

Question: Why is it... (none / 0) (#1)
by hawkny on Fri Jan 25, 2008 at 06:18:23 AM EST
that the city budget officer is never asked to come before the common council, in open session, to answer hard questions about the state of the city's finances?  Jennings is not an expert in public finance.  He only gives out what the budget office tells him...Shouldn't the council/residents have access to the people who know what is going on?

Thank you.

While other council members are proposing arresting Albany residents over parking tickets Mr Conti is a voice of budgetary reason.

Lets all hope that this translates into real action.

And here I thought the popular assumption was that DIA was King Kong.
