Tonight, August 1st at 6pm, there will be an informational meeting about the Delaware Ave roadway "improvement" project.

If you are at all interested in seeing how the city will be catering to the needs of working Delmartians who flee the city between the hours of 4-6pm, please stop by the VFW at 525 Delaware Ave tonight.

Residents of Delaware Ave and fellow cyclists have been lobbying for bike lanes along this corridor, but we've been told that this type of forward thinking is not feasible because it will hurt businesses and would require cooperation with multi-national National Grid.

The city has an opportunity to turn this already pedestrian-friendly neighborhood into a real gem. Come out tonight to hear the arguments against providing for the citizens who travel via foot, bike, wheelchair, etc... every day.

Those of us who don't drive, or choose not to really need your support.

How'd it go? (none / 0) (#1)

It's my favorite street to walk, but can't imagine a bike on that road.  Heavy traffic, small tight intersections for cars turning, many cars parked, cars not parked long and always getting back into traffic.  It would be too hard this way.   Makes sense to find dedicated space for bikes.  Trouble is not much space to work with, with stores right up on the road.  I wonder if it would be better to turn a parallel street into a bike/local traffic road.

What did you hear?
