It's all legal. And only coincidence that there were fundraisers those nights. If this doesn't restore Joe Bruno's good name I don't know what will.
For example, State Police aviation records reflect that state aircraft was used to transport Senator Bruno and staff from Albany to New York City on April 5, 2007 at about 11:00 a.m., and from New York City back to Albany at about 5:00 p.m. the same date. The itinerary for that date reflects a lunch at 12:30 p.m., followed by meetings at 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.

The investigation revealed that the 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. meetings related to legislative or official state business. However, the 3:30 p.m. meeting, which lasted between thirty and forty minutes, included some discussion of political business. The 4:30 p.m. meeting lasted approximately ten minutes. Thus, less than one hour of the day’s schedule related to legislative business.

State Police aviation records reflect that state aircraft was used to transport Senator Bruno and staff from Albany to New York City on May 3, 2007 at about 1:00 p.m., and from New York City back to Albany the following day, May 4, 2007. The itineraries for those dates reflect meetings at 2:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., followed by the New York State Senate Republican Campaign Committee “Spring Reception” at 5:30 p.m. The itinerary for the following date, May 4, 2007, reflects a 9:00 a.m. meeting.

The investigation disclosed that the May 3, 2007 meetings at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. related to legislative or official state business. On May 4, 2007, the 9:00 a.m. meeting related to legislative business and lasted approximately 1 and ˝ hours.

State Police aviation records reflect that state aircraft were used to transport Senator Bruno and staff from Albany to New York City on May 17, 2007 at about 11:00 a.m., and from New York City back to Albany the following day, May 18, 2007, at about 9:00 a.m. The itinerary for May 17, 2007 reflects a lunch at 12:30 p.m., followed by meetings at 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. The schedule reflects the “Annual New York Republican State Committee Dinner” at 6:00 p.m. that evening. The itinerary does not reflect any scheduled meetings in New York City on the following day, May 18, 2007.

The investigation disclosed that the May 17, 2007 meetings at 12:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. related to legislative or official state business. No meetings were held on the following date, when the Senator and his staff used state aircraft to return to Albany. Thus, legislative business was conducted, but the balance of the days’ schedules was not dedicated to official state business. Notwithstanding the limited nature of the legislative business conducted on some of the trips, there is no legal basis to conclude that Senator Bruno’s use of the state aircraft violated any state policy. It is plain, however, that in some instances the state’s permissive policy allowed the use of state aircraft in a manner that did not adequately protect taxpayer resources.
So what is the big deal? When has the state government ever adequately protected taxpayer resources?

So, in other words, Bruno was correct?

A top aide to Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been suspended and another reassigned following a report today that found they set about trying to create unfavorable media coverage of Republican Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno.

The report by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's office found the administration deviated from standard practice in having the State Police create special reports on Bruno's use of police and state aircraft.

The investigation, which looked into both Bruno's travel and the senate leader's allegation that Spitzer used State Police to spy on him, concluded that beginning in May 2007, people in the governor's office planned to generate press coverage of Senator Bruno's use of state aircraft to attend fundraisers and other political events, rather than for official state business as he had certified.

The report by the Democratic attorney general's office says Spitzer aides did not simply produce records, as the state Freedom of Information Law requires, but were instead engaged in planning and producing media coverage concerning Senator Bruno's travel on state aircraft before any FOIL request was made.

Spitzer said spokesman Darren Dopp has been suspended in the matter. William F. Howard, assistant deputy secretary for homeland security, has been reassigned to an unspecified post. Spitzer plans no action against Preston Felton, acting superintendent of the State Police, who was involved in the matter.

The 53-page report also found that Bruno's use of state aircraft was legal, although it noted that in some cases he did only a small amount of legislative business. The report recommended the state's policy on aircraft use - which allows officials to conduct political business while traveling at taxpayer expense as long as they do some government work, no matter how little - is overly permissive and porous and allows for an abuse of taxpayer funds.

If you work for Spitzer, watch your back! If you do what you need to do and the boss looks bad, off to purgatory for you!

This whole story was a non-issue from day one. State employees aren't supposed to be reimbursed for commuting time either, and I'm sure that Spitzer isn't writing checks for flights back down to Manhattan.

The legislative leaders and executive staff are busy people, and like it or not, alot of their business takes place in NYC, not Albany. Sometimes a one-hour meeting at 1PM in Manhattan is crucial, and you need to be there -- blowing the whole day to attend a meeting via car is a real waste.

Cherry picking this stuff is a complete waste of everyone's time. If you're going to let these folks use helicopters, let them use them. If we're going to scrutinize every trip, let them take the 5:10AM train to Penn.

bruno is using our tax payer money to fly to republican fundraisers and requesting the cops turn on the sirens to make him feel important since he can no longer feel important while getting a lap dance.   While that is allowed under the flawed law if he so much as slaps a high five with some ball sucking lobbyist in NYC, it is still wrong.   The report say that.   You are paying to fly bruno to fundraisers.  I understand how "democrats" like Al and Jerry Jennings think that is absolutely fab!

spitzers people were right for alerting the public to just one more way we are getting ripped off.   Of course this gets them fired. That sends the right message, right?   Not to me.

Bruno was right in asserting that spitzer's people are out to get him.

Bruno was right that people were intentionally trying to catch him doing illegal things.   I'm waiting for him to fire the FBI for spying on him.

The only thing that appears to be a lie was the need for the police protection for bruno.   Bruno doesn't need police protection.   He needs EMT protection.  There are also a bunch of lies about how bruno hasn't taken bribes.

The only other people who were wrong were the people in Spitzer's adminstration who thought this would be a good way to take down bruno.  How about you start a full disclosure policy and lay your pork out on the line, Gov?  Drop your pants.  A little honesty.   What've you got to hide?  I don't really give a fuck about some free helicopter rides for a guy getting fitted for embalming fluid IV's.  Bruno is a crook.  Everyone knows it.  So is Silver.  And most of their lobotomized packs.  They want a pay raise?   Mind boggling. And the Governor wants to give it to them?   I care about all the pork.  Personally I'd like to propose a program where all the State Senators and Assemblybots are fired and we give that money for their ridiculous salaries and lulus to programs that might help teach some kids.  25% of the kids in my city live in poverty.  I bet they could use a per diem like our elected donothings.  And i bet less of them would get drunk and molest interns.   If its only three men in a room why are we paying for the other multiples of seatwarmers (more like barstool warmers).

Anyone in our state government who doesn't stand up and make a loud argument for change is a spineless coward.   To them I say, I hope the interns you are fucking laugh behind your backs at your cowardice.   I think there is an ancient curse somewhere that goes something like, "may your children be elected in a corpratocracy so their spines become like pea vines in December and they then steal everything you worked so hard for...bitches".   I think its Egyptian.

You might as well refer to Bruno as Jesus Christ now. No US Attorney is going to touch him with a ten-foot pole.

Spitzer let his dick do the talking. (If you believe that the peons cooked this scheme up, I got a bridge for ya with nice views of Brooklyn) It didn't help that they plotted the whole thing on state blackberries, which are logged. Nobody finds it difficult to believe that Bruno is corrupt. OAG, the Feds, probably Soares were all investigating him.

So instead of letting the investigations take their course, Spitzer got personal. The real purpose of busting Bruno was to hit him in the gut -- personal travel at government expense is unreported income. Unreported income gets taxed heavily, and the IRS can go back for years and potentially bankrupt him.

So now poor Uncle Joe is the victim and he'll use it to raise lots and lots of money on Wall St. (They don't like the "sheriff") And many democrats, already pissed off because the patronage jobs aren't materializing, will stay home.
