"It must be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to plan, more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to manage, than the creation of a new system. For the initiator has the enmity of all who would profit by the preservation of the old institutions and merely lukewarm defenders in those who would gain by the new ones." Machiavelli

So if you read through the Recapitalize Albany report you better be ready to keep track of your acronymically inclined organizations. Here is a quick overview of what we find in the report.
ALDC - Abany Local Development Corp IDA - Industrial Development Agency The newly recommended but not yet acronymed Albany Development Authority (I'm guessing we'll call it the ADA) ACDA - Albany Community Development Agency Strategic Property Acquisition Fund - With an acronym like SPAF, it's bound to rock. Neighborhood Revitalization Corporation - NRC? Albany Homestore - Apparently acronym proof. And I'm sure I missed a few. We've got a lot of people who are going to help us out. Some might say, "too many cooks in the kitchen". Some do. But there is also some good humor in the report. On page 29 it says,"It is important that the Albany HomeStore does not duplicate efforts, such as the ones run by the Affordable Housing Partnership". Duplicating efforts? Hmmm. Perhaps we could create a Strategic Anti Duplication Authority to make sure that doesn't happen. Someone look into that. But perhaps my favorite take on this is by the very own Neighborhood SubCommittee. Their final recommendation is "Recommendation 10: Establish oversight body to assure recommendations are effectively implemented." Now any reasonable person could take a step back and say, "man, our recommendations are a bit confusing and don't really stand on their own...perhaps we should attempt to streamline this process a bit". Or you could say, "I know what this calls for...another group!!". And that is what the neighborhood subcommittee did. They recommend a Neighborhood Oversight body to make sure everything goes smoothly. Guess who they think should staff the Neighborhood Oversight committee? Well, they looked around and decided that they themselves were most qualified to staff it. I can't wait for their updates on how their recommendations are going.
