meeting with the APD

As I mentioned, a meeting was planned and held, for the purpose of getting this investigation of corruption back on track.  After the police dropped the ball, the DA did too.

I've chronicled this along the way, and here's the latest installment/suggestions.

Do not go to a meeting like that with representation  from a crime victims advocate and/or an attorney.  When you make complaints about institutions, sooner or later they will want to turn it on you.  Be ready for that.  I was already angry, and it didn't help.  I have resources and I'll have them with me next time.  Just remember to be prepared for that.

More later.

But it was probably obvious. (long day.)

Do not go to a meeting with the police to complain about dropping the ball WITHOUT representation from a crime victims advocate and/or an attorney.

It is human nature to push back, and institutions do that too, when you've pushed them.

I was reminded about this recently by security people.  I was told by pros when the goons see you push back (security system, watching cars), they will push back harder.

People in our institutions do the same thing.

Be ready for it.

handled it as badly as the police.  Which is why, once again, I'm stressing doing everything through a crime victims center and/or an attorney.

Institutions do not accept criticism, which is putting it quite mildly.

by kateb on Fri Mar 23, 2007 at 08:19:00 AM EST

is after you've been targeted by goons for months with little attention from law enforcement, it's best to have some people on board to do the complaining for you.

People in institutions (none / 0) (#5)
by kateb on Fri Mar 23, 2007 at 10:16:30 AM EST

can be as bad as criminal goons in pushing back when you push them.

Be ready for defensiveness if you complain, and it's best to have someone else do the complaining.

And the level (none / 0) (#6)
by kateb on Fri Mar 23, 2007 at 10:49:15 AM EST
of commitment and concern at crime victims centers is unparalleled.  Your own family could never do as much.  In the past 24 hours I have heard from everyone imaginable.  A text message from Seattle.  An email from Tucson.  A phone call from Detroit.  And of course my much loved local people, including ex cops, teachers, businessmen, etc. who walk the same walk I do.

They all wanted to come with me for the next meeting, but each wanted to know why I would go to another meeting.  Why?

And I couldn't answer, except it was "planned".

So I contacted A/C Bruno and Inv. D'Alessandro and Det. Lt. Tremblay and said no meeting.

And I contacted a lawyer to find a better way.  I see a federal civil rights lawsuit on the horizon, but I'm not at all interested in the money, only justice, one standard.

by kateb on Sat Mar 24, 2007 at 03:56:42 PM EST
if it's for real, it's good.

One standard of justice:

no one gets special access, not one special family or person who can reach the DA (or judge) for something that's unsubstantiated.

all people, all races and background and job and income and life situation, have equal access and all listened to.

the people with unfavorable political equations or seem a political risk are in the same place of privilege as the ones who are more comfortable to the DA (or judge)

life matters, and stories do too, and each of us has a story that matters.  No family, or person, or situation matters more.

of people changed a lot at that meeting.

A/C Bruno for example didn't care to be right, just to stick to a theme and get his way.  Maybe I'm not accustomed to his style.  When I was around him at a similar sort of meeting to work out issues with the police a couple years ago, someone else ran it, which seems to have made all the difference.  I won't be dealing with Bruno again any time soon.  He was wrong too often, perhaps unprepared.  There's no benefit to that in a situation that needs to be resolved.  Wastes people's time.

by nitevision on Sun Mar 25, 2007 at 06:40:40 AM EST
I did some checking and found out that DA Chief Chris D'Alessandro put together a meeting to discuss your concerns and complaints.

In earlier exchanges with you, I like many, have difficulty in understanding your postings.  You ramble and ramble about a conspiracy directed against you.  Your charges lack specificity and exhibit paranoid delusional behavior.

I salute Chris for attempting to address your concerns.  Now I agree with him and all others involved in that meeting that the problems are not real.  You reference the FBI, the police, the DA and the courts as failing you.  Could it be that all of these organizations recognize you as being unstable?

An court order of protection being issued; your claims of having a shotgun & claiming you will use it; multiple nonsensical & incomprehensible posts; baseless allegations, all should point you to seek counseling.  There are mental health professionals who can help you through this (imagined) crisis.

You don't agree with me on various things, so I'm clueless. Whatever... I'm just another blip on the internet taking an opportunity to vent.

You seem sincere, but your posts are pretty erratic. It seems pretty mysterious that people would out harassing you for so long with no apparent goal or end in sight.

Whatever dark dirty secret you claim to know, just go public with it or not. Whomever you're going after will have a lawyer would make you look sound like a complete psycho in front of the jury, just based on your posts here.

Which is worse, dealing with chronic criminal behavior of political goons for ten months, or dealing with the horrid way the criminal justice system treats crime victims.

For those of you who link crime to paranoia, again, thanks for the lesson to record, record, record, document, document, document.  I would not have done half of it without you.

And here's a glass raised in hommage to the people who know what I mean, and are doing unsung heroic things to make life and our systems better.

Details on basics (none / 0) (#18)
by kateb on Sun Mar 25, 2007 at 01:26:24 PM EST
since this I can provide, and have so many times.

FBI investigation:  false arrest of Mark Lyman, witness intimidation along the way.  It's a public corruption case.

APD:  criminal activity of political goons, likely suspects already known for some time.

courts:  after arrests are made.

DA:  asked to be kept in the loop, dropped the ball on investigating something it said it would.

That, more or less, is the gist of it.  Tarring and feathering the victim is what some people do.  Which, again, is why it's sweet to have proof.  And you made me do it.

Don't Misinterpret (none / 0) (#19)
by nitevision on Sun Mar 25, 2007 at 02:26:05 PM EST
I wasn't trying to be nasty.  I just asked questions about your complaints and allegations.
You only provide scant details so I asked people who have been involved in dealing with you.

Apparently no one in the DA's office finds any merit to your accusations.  Is the FBI being polite because they have not launched an investigation into your allegations?  You bemoaned the court order against you.  You berate any cop who refuses to dedicate their entire career to listening to your rants.  That's what I am being told. Without exception Kate, that's the universal opinion.

Kate, wake up and smell the coffee, no one is taking you seriously.  Goon squads, corruption, gun shots, etc., etc. lead you to post, post, post here on DIA.  People roll their eyes at the mention of your calls/posts.  Please do yourself a favor and sit down with a mental health professional.  You will feel better and a bunch of other people can get back to doing the jobs we pay them to do.

by kateb on Sun Mar 25, 2007 at 02:47:36 PM EST
of details here, too many..... since April 06.

You just like to slander people, but I will always feel blessed that you did.  I had a lot of lifestyle preferences (and DNA) to overcome to actually record and document people I want to trust.

Here, you introduced me to people I don't know apart from this internet communication.  Paranoia oriented folks.  With experience, I got the wisdom of having proof.

Continue on, I don't care.  I'm glad I have the proof.

Thank you.

Life happens (none / 0) (#21)
by kateb on Sun Mar 25, 2007 at 02:58:00 PM EST
Driving home from a weekend trip, I daydreamed a bit.

With more freedom about my life than most people (many blessings), I just asked why this.  I mean, c'mon, what value is there in chronicling crap?  I have so many opportunities to do what on the face of it really seems more rewarding.

Here's what happened.  As the criminal political goons kept up, and law enforcement went up and down and unreliable, with new layers and unexpected things EVERY WEEK, I finally got it:

just tell the story.

The story matters more than anything else.  Investigation, prosecution, litigation are nasty processes.

Skip reading it if you don't like it.

And some day I'll tell it cohesively, not as it's happening, and really get it out there.  It will happen.  I'll write the book if no one else has.

Thanks again for the docs.

So you had a vision in the car:

"just tell the story."

That's a great idea.

For some reason I'm compelled to read this drivel.... please.... TELL THE FUCKING STORY OR STFU!

If you hit the right news cycle, you can be kateb the blogger goddess, busting the corrupt with the power of the internet. You'll be able to chit chat with Diane Sawyer and appear on Court TV.

Do it here, call the TV, papers, whatever... anything that's even slightly coherent. You're not really hiding your identity, so the Bishop's Black Ops group can take you out at anytime -- those rosaries are actually garottes. Get the story out before its too late!

I have a little story of my own:

Last week I some wacked out dude in a bike spilled my recycling bucket on the curb on garbage day when he was looking for cans -- or so he said. Actually, he's a renegade cop putting monitoring devices on my garbage cans -- I later found out after drinking a bottle of scotch that I was being watched by Albany Diocese... they're not happy that I read the DiVinci code two years ago and are going to bust me for not using clear garbage bags.

But I'm ready for them. This Monday I'll be waiting in the bushes with a stick... when that freak comes by on his bike, I'm jamming the stick in the spokes.

No one understands better what it's like to be a crime victim than crime victims and counselors.

No one experiences the horridness of our criminal justice system more deeply than crime victims and counselors.

No one knows better than crime victims and counselors how bad it is when one month turns into ten months.

No one gets it better than crime victims and counselors when people in law enforcement don't do what they promised to do, or become unreliable or untrustworthy.

No one appreciates the sacredness of telling your story more than crime victims and counselors.

And no one knows the costs better than crime victims and counselors.

If you have not walked the walk, you won't know what I mean.   But at the right time, perhaps the next election, I will explain if it does not improve.

I'd say the same about the police, but we don't elect them.  The DA is elected to serve on our behalf.

Quite honestly, I don't get what makes it so hard for them.  Just be responsive.

Al, couldn't find your post but assume it advised to just ignore.  Good advice & this is the last

Kate, I accepted your challenge and did more checking.  Chris D., Lt Bruno and the others were concerned about your mental well being.  They and the others debunked your allegations. Shootings, people stalking you, political goons, Catholic hit squads, threatening to use a shotgun, tape recordings, etc., all reduce your creditabilty to zero.

Did you threaten NO to attend the meeting if your parents were invited?  Do your parents believe that you have serious mental problems? Was your own brother at the meeting?

Please Kate, take a deep breath and seek some psychiatric help.  There is help available for you to overcome these imagined demons in your life.  You must take the first step to helping yourself.

Major faux pas of law enforcement at the meeting was reversed today.   Success in asking for that, getting it accomplished.

We're back on track.

What law enforcement, even the most experienced cops, need to remember is contact with crime victims is different than contact with criminals.   They've got to switch from scrutinizing to understanding.

There are still many issues to address, but I think it's safe to say everyone wants to.

How This "kateb" was tolerated until she began being critical of the DA.  Then people began to turn on her.  I have no idea if she is credible or not, but I do know that she began being discredited by some on here as soon as she stopped drinking the Soares kool-aid.
What gives? You could tolerate her so long as she was critical of the "right" people (the APD, local Politicians...)
Why should I believe NiteVision anymore than her? Not only that, isn't it a little bit problematic that NiteVision portrays his/her information as though they are actually (as in directly) involved with the intimate details of the mysterious case of "kateb"? Isn't some sort of a law being broken by NiteVision revealing (if in fact they aren't completely full of shit) information about kateb's case?
But of course, if this were someone associated with the status quo they would be demanding that NiteVision be punished and sentenced to the 9th ring of Hell.
Good work hypocrites and Soares-Hacks.

Actually I had been egging her on and, well, not being very polite or nice to her since she started posting.

I have stopped for a reason. I fear that others now feel it necessary to step in and take up the slack and I am now going to ask them to stop as well.

Looking back at her posts I think that we should all respect her right to vent at what she sees as the system failing her. Thats well and good. We all bitrch about that don't we?

Let a valued member of our little community vent but lets take a moment to reflect if it really prudent for us to respond to messages that she clearly has been writing to those many people we all know are reading and not writing.

Kate: I realize that many of my posts to you were over the mark and I am sorry if I have pushed a little too hard.

Nite and others, there are plenty of other people out there that deserve to be mocked. Champlain, for example. Or even me. Between Chumplain's idiotic rants and double standards and my disdain for spellchecks and proofreading I think we make a better target then Kate.

Let her deal with her devils her own way.

Please.

I thought you meant The Joe.

As for Tony Bruno, who let me down with his mistakes at the meeting, Mike Tremblay took responsiblity at least three times later, saying he didn't keep Tony up to date and tell him things he should have known.  And so there's someone leading a meeting who had a lot of things wrong and JUST KEPT GOING.

And yes, amends are being made.  That's why I figured out at some point:  just tell the story.

It is so fucking bad to be a crime victim and run the gauntlet with both the criminals and law enforcement.

I also want to add.... (none / 0) (#52)
by kateb on Sun Apr 01, 2007 at 03:46:20 PM EST
I enjoy singing people's praises and believe our world would be better if we did that more often.

Tony Bruno was 3 for 3 in my experience before the fiasco meeting (fiasco caused by D'Alessandro).  Tony was also relying on bad information, which Tremblay acknowledged immediately after the meeting.   I have yet to hear from D'Alessandro how he messed up as a 20 year police veteran, but I am willing to give him the opportunity to explain.  That's why I am not being too critical.

I learned and experienced so very much about dealing with law enforcement during these past many months, since the police quite badly handled the first Sunday of the TRO (temporary restraining order) at a church where a friend was protesting in September '05.  Turley addressed it well.  Many things happened later, like Tuffey ordering a false arrest of the protester I mentioned in April '06.   And then periodic low level criminal activity directed at me, for using my voice.

I learned an assortment of things.  I said most of it.  I deeply respect people who opt to ride it out with the criminals, and leave the vast criminal justice system out of it.  I learned it is good to have a cop who responds, and not a cop (like Guilderland's) who manage you.  I learned cops (detectives) can say one thing one day, and another thing another day, seemingly schizophrenic.  And I learned when you call 911 and tell about the one time you aren't sure the criminal left, you will quite soon have cops storming your house looking for him.  I learned that is hard on me.  I learned I get angry when law enforcement makes mistakes, partly because they seem to do it so pompously.  But I also learned you can call them on their mistakes, later, and the bluster is usually gone.  I learned a lot of people know what I mean.  And I learned that we have a police force devoted to safety first, and I can accept and value that, even though it means they miss the lesser things.  I think it would be good for them to add a line on some of the forms:  never got back to because something else came up.

That's about it.

by kateb on Wed Mar 28, 2007 at 05:06:24 AM EST
without saying anything new....

I learned before I got my shotgun that it is extremely common for people to call the APD about someone lawfully having a gun, even when you're just putting it in your trunk. (Tremblay told me that.)  People and guns are... you know.  I took D'Alessandro and Tremblay's advice on what to buy and where, got the head's up on people and guns, and got it, and never even took the lock off.   It's not for Albany.  It's for away places.

In the meantime, my family did one of those "people and gun" things, and contacted the DA.  That makes a little sense, where they'd go, because my family has three decades of ties to the office of the DA.

Did the DA do the smart thing and call me?  No.

Instead there was a fiasco of a meeting.

But I got the gun back.  (Give it to us voluntarily or else!) (them)  (Give it back to me by __) (me)

Tremblay took responsiblity for Bruno's goofs.  It happens.

D'Alessandro isn't returning calls.

That counseling card everyone keeps putting on the table.  I'm good on that.

But God, this gauntlet.

I just can't help feeling it has got to be worse for so many other people who deal with our systems.  And it's no wonder chronic political criminal goons continue.

No wonder at all.

But you know, I'm keenly aware it's too much to deal with criminals and this system at the same time.

It was jarring to me too, when I first heard it.

Hmmm... I'm a detective... I get to work in the AM and can investigate a rape, some violent assault, a stolen car... or someone's paranoid and politically loaded ramblings...

I know the first thing I'd avoid.

Besides, if they help you, won't the papal death squad fuck them up?

The Papel Death Squads meet and the bowling alley on Thursday nights right after the Klan meeting brakes up.  Interesting enough they don't drink together and the Klan wont drink Guiness.

I'm exploring filing suit (none / 0) (#48)
by kateb on Fri Mar 30, 2007 at 10:23:33 AM EST

in Federal Court, or the right court.

I'd very much like my days to be mine again, but I can't walk away from bad practices I've seen and experienced that no one else is addressing.  Seems like a good situation to hire someone else to do it.

I'm afraid I'll have too much to say about the players.

DA Soares, for example, is not as new and different as you might think.  Sounded right out of the box when we spoke recently, and he had a lot of leeway not to.

I'm tired.
