Snow Emergency?

Perhaps they should rename this event. It stopped snowing last night at midnight. Apparently Mayor Jennings decided after 12-14 hours of slow drawn out thought that they probably should deal with all the snow. Makes one wonder if Jerry was even in the office doing his job. So, with sloth like reaction, Jerry finally crept into action. And thus a "snow emergency" was declared. Because Jerry needs many hours to think about this it gives you very little time to actually deal with it. And thus, we now have a "tow emergency". Which I really don't mind because a lot of people don't care about local politics until the incompetence makes their personal lives very unpleasant.

I was talking to a business owner on Madison on Monday and he was bitching that the city hadnt declared a snow emergency. Now they have and people are bitching.

Nothing like waiting til the last minute. the only warning I recieved was when I was sleeping and someone allegedly rang my door bell at 11:45 p.m. Guess I should suspend life and watch Capital News 9 for official announcements. Hope my money is put to good use for the convention center...

Probably, but then the city wouldnt be able to tow two days worth of Clifton Park state workers.  See there is a benifit to this.  As annoying as it is for a couple of days its even nicer knowing that these SOB's will actually have to park in their lots.

And how many of them illegally parked today and how many will illegally park tommorow?

OK, so maybe I shouldn't have put a "OK to Park Here" sign over in front of Roscoe's house.

3 p.m. on a Sunday is an unreasonable expectation. (none / 0) (#11)

The mayor would have had to interrupt his holiday celebrations to take care of the business of the city and we know that multi-tasking is not one of the mayor's skills.....to give notice at 3 p.m. would have required the mayor to hold onto his drink AND dial his cell phone.

So it was you who put that sign there, huh? I thought 283 slunked over and done it.

You never know who put me up to it. :-)

283- Isnt amazing how all the Staties can find parking spaces when they have to? Do you think that a case can be made for parking permits based on the ability of the state workers to find parking spaces when they have to?

Giving 8 hours notice for a Snow Emergency doesn't cut it. Sorry folks. I don't have time to be glued to a radio or TV. I was on my way to Connecticut on a bus when the Snow Emergency was declared. I generally don't drive my car long distances since I use the time to read.
Secondly, the towing companies are SCUM. They are verbally and physically abusive, and force people to sign forms or withhold cars. For example, to get my car back, I had to sign a form stating that no damage was incurred from towing. When I asked to see my car, he sneered at me and told me to sign the paper or I wasn't getting my car back. I don't see how this can be construed as anything but abusive and illegal. Someone owes me 175 dollars.

Many of these comments are snide, uninformed, hearsay, or speculation, and are unworthy of consideration.

Stupid policies such as Police collusion with scumbag towing companies and tolerance the City has toward these towing companies is one more reason why people move out of cities like Albany.

To fix this problem, The city should give 24 HOURS notice, Period, before enforcing a snow emergency, and should have lights or other signals posted on street corners. As I said before, I do not watch TV, nor do I listen to the radio often. I did not learn about the Snow Emergency until Tuesday morning, while in Connecticut.

I agree with you 110% on those companies, in fact calling them scum is an insult to deadly bacteria everywhere. I had the same experience of being told to bend over or I wasn't getting a car back, and that was years ago so things haven't changed.

It is long past the time when we need to get together for a coup planning party.
