Kuntsler on Convention Centers, etc

Due to all my server trouble I failed to link to Kuntsler's rant this week. He doesn't see a strong future for the convention industry.
It seems to me that one of the first things to go as the US economy contracts, along with its energy supply, will be activities like boat shows and optometrist's conventions.
Nor some other industries. But he certainly has the national real estate market pegged in this fine sentence.
What remains is what bankers call "the workout" -- where the financial chips fall when people's hopes and dreams collide with reality's separate agenda.
Reality's separate agenda. I like that. If they build the convention center in Albany I'll be sure to spray paint that on the side at some point as it sits vacant in 2013.

convention centers (outside of Las Vegas and Florida) were/are money-losing propositions.

The large downtown arena, in conjunction with the Empire State Plaza's and downtown hotels' meeting spaces, can pretty much handle any mid-sized convention that may want to come to Albany.

No matter what Jennings says to the contrary.

But Jennings has political bills to repay to developers and construction unions, so the absurd Albany convention center will probably be built.

And state and county taxpayers will pay the bill for decades.
The Democrats are the party of the people.
