Back in the day I used to post traffic numbers. Got to keep the advertisers happy. September broke some records. These aren't exact since i'm going from memory but they are really close.

Most visitors in one day: 450
Total unique visitors for the month: 3,700
Page Views for the month: 51,000

That is the DIA record for one day based on local content. There have been a few times we hit 1,000 in a day but those have been when my posts about Sweeney, my Britney rewrite, and my Harry Potter bit got picked up by national sites.

So, to all you shareholders and potential investors. We are growing. We aren't quite profitable. Which is more than the TU can say.

The question that remains is...with this many people reading the site, can we mobilize and make a difference?

How about we re-enact the old ... (none / 0) (#1)

Karloff Frankenstein movie, of course we'll need  a new Karloff; someone with a similar orangish complexion might do well.

Hey, there's even a bell tower!

You have a great site here, and it's finding an audience.

Not a quit-your-day-job audience, yet, but more and better every month.

The Jennings gang's hold on Albany is tenuous, and will hopefully break in the next election.

And you will have done a whole lot to help that happen.

A question:  Who do you think will run against Jennings?

Calsolaro, Ellis and Morris would be good candidates, I think, but it would be an uphill fight for anyone.

Whoever does it will have to work a lot harder than the last guy -- fund-raising, inspiring and organizing volunteers, developing a positive reform message, attacking Jennings' record of decline, fiscal irresponsibility, cronyism and high taxes, etc.

I think any of the three you mentioned can be elected mayor if that's what any one of them wants to do and commits to it.  All three are high quality people.   I think Albany is going to be fine with a change and won't have to dis' Jennings much to make that decision.  It's just time.

Hey, if the 8th ward can vote out an incumbent legislator with no big issues in '07.....

I think it can happen with a solid campaign.

start out highlighting the current mayor wanting to hide the budget from the citizens of this city.

The fact is ... you need someone who'll put Albany's financial house in order.  Everything we want to do from public safety to youth services to code enforcement to economic development depends on stability in city financing etc.

None of those three -- Ellis, Morris or Calsolaro -- meet the test on city finances.  The only person currently in gov't that meets the test is City Comptroller Tom Nitido.  He has a handle on city finances, has a good record on fiscal management from where he sits and has a reputation for fairness, integrity and honesty.

I think we are much better off arguing about what a progressive is, and whether we trust 'em, the splitters.  Then, and only then, can we get together.

Easy enough to do in a presidential election year, wouldn't you think?

Jennings will wake up to read DIA in the morning if he knows the site generates 1,000 - 1200 readers a day, 10,000 per month who log on twice a week or more. "Wow, a cause for concern", right Nickie?

As the encumbant mayor of Albany, Jennings has a lock on 5,000-6,000 votes in every election.  He spends oodles to convince another 8,000 -10,000 that he deserves to be reelected.

DIA, could put a big dent in the second group's support for Jennings, providing a strong mayoral alternative is also on the ballot.

Politically, Albany City Democrats are fractured, organizationally, right down the middle.  Half of the wards support his leadership, half don't.

The mayor is vulnerable.

the plan is to dent him like a city owned SUV.

meeting the test (none / 0) (#12)

I do not think it is accurate to say that Calsolaro doesn't meet the test on finances.   He has been out front on this issue more than anyone.  I agree that Nitido has also been saying the right things but he hasn't been as consistently vocal about it.

I'm not sure why Morris ran for the office of president of the council because she doesn't appear to want to lead on any issues.

Did Nitido ever get the figures from Barnette ... (none / 0) (#13)
by Jim Travers on Wed Oct 03, 2007 at 09:18:15 AM EST
after suing for them?

The figures for the city's landfill revenue and cost of operation were a part of what was repeatedly refused to him.

Just like Burton had to do so many years ago.

Funny how that all seemed to fade away.

I wonder why that is?

The old "As it was in the beginning, is now and forever shall be ..." attitude about Albany's body politic has got to go.

It's time to replace it with "Once upon a time ..."

And things will change, they have to.

If folks decide to get off their tails to work for and demand a change they will reap the fruits of their labors.
