Netflix Albany

So Netflix is always recommending movies to me based on my past choices. Now they are also telling me what everyone in Albany is renting, I guess so I can have something to talk to my neighbors about. Current top 5 Albany, NY Netflix movies.

1) Texas Chainsaw Massacre
2) An Inconvenient Truth
3) Wordplay
4) Waiting
5) Soprano's Season 3

Quite a mix. You've got your violent crowd. You've got the environmental types. Wordplay is actually a movie about crossword puzzles, I'm not sure what to make of that. And then you've got a movie called "Waiting" that is about waiting tables, which I'm assuming reflects the employment options available in the city.

I do not have cable and have never seen one of the movies mentioned.  From that standpoint I am undereducated.  I do plan on getting something to provide me high-speed access to the internet, however; again none of the selections would be on my watch list.   I listen to NPR and watch Public Television because both are Free sort of except for the annual donation.  It tells you how Albanians chose to blow their money and why they don't vote.  You need to get another life.  Why not run for Mayor?

but i have so many as it is.  I never seen one of the movies mentioned either.

Netflix are DVD's that come via the mail.   You can order any movie ever made and it just shows up in your mailbox.  Surely you aren't anti-movie?   Lots of great documentaries.

I also listen to NPR (when Chartock is babbling on) and watch public TV.  Great documentary a week or two ago on the catholic church in Boston.  Did you catch that one?

I may run for mayor at some point.  Stick around.

I'm a Netflix subscriber.  And I vote.  I don't know why my choice of DVD rental delivery systems would lead to you say that I am "blowing my money," but I, uh, disagree.

Me too. (none / 0) (#5)

And I recently got Wordplay and An Inconvenient Truth from NetFlix, so I guess my vote does count!

A Muse, Children of Men is a flick... (none / 0) (#4)

you should pay the full ticket price to see.

Why? Because it most aptly describes the scenario it seems you would like to see become reality.

Maybe it'll change your view of things.

"Only a limited few Americans have been effected by this war."

If you believe this, you are not only wrong, you must be mad.

We, our children and grandchildren have been "effected by this war" and even those not yet born will be paying for the criminal acts of this administration for years to come, and not just financially.

Having stated you taught for 30 years, I can only imagine how poisoned your students minds must be, their having been a captive audience to your misguided views.

For example, you wrote in your earlier post:

"We have no choice at this time except to double the troops and double the money."

Of course we have a choice. We can choose to end our illegal aggressive action which from its inception has been aimed at controlling the world's oil and not instituting a democracy in either Iraq or Afghanistan.

Perhaps you don't mind paying a bit more for fuel, but I do.

Like many on a fixed income, my ability to engage as a consumer in our economy has been severely diminished. My discretionary spending on non-essentials has been curtailed because of rising fuel costs alone. I'm sure I'm not the only one so affected by this war.

Have you asked yourself who benefits from this war?

Exxon's recently released earnings for last year again showed record profits over and above the obscene record profit they reported for '05.
('06 = $39 billion; '05 = $36.5 billion)

You call for the doubling of our troops and money being spent on the war, for, as you say:

"This will make our troops safer and gives them an opportunity to correct our mistake in entering Iraq and may give peace a chance."

More madness.

How on earth will sending more young men and women to their death make them safer?

Astonishingly, you recognize that "We made numerous disastrous mistakes...", but call for our spending more and sending more.

To this I say, borrowing the words you used to complete your above quoted sentence "this will just add to the pile."

It is baffling that as an educator your logic could be so flawed. Insane, in fact.

Why insane? Because you call for the further mortgaging of America to foreign interests and more of our youth to go to their death, knowing full well that, as you so well put it:

"Regardless of the outcome the US position in the world will be negatively affected."

I don't know. You are constitutionally entitled, at least still this week, anyway, to air your view, wrong as it may be.

Maybe you've begun a second career as a recruiter.

I never said that I taught for 30 years.  I stand by all my statements.  The government often takes positions that as citizens we disagree with and it is important to hear them all.

Indeed you did not.

My memory failed me. I found your post that I erringly remembered. I have pasted it below:

"Over 30 years ago I worked in a High School primarily with students who had attendance, disciplinary, and substance abuse difficulties."

My comment, which was in error:

"Having stated you taught for 30 years, I can only imagine how poisoned your students minds must be, their having been a captive audience to your misguided views."

Here I offer my correction:

"Having stated that "Over 30 years ago I worked in a High School primarily with students who had attendance, disciplinary, and substance abuse difficulties.", I can only imagine how poisoned your students minds must be, their having been a captive audience to your misguided views."

Sorry for the error.
