So, remember last year when I posted a bit called "party like a politician"? Here was the intro
So a little while back Joe Bruno was down in Florida partying with Donald Trump at some high end resort. Who was paying for the trip? Why, his campaign donors, of course. He was working hard for the citizens of NY down there in Florida. Hey, if you had $2.5 million in your campaign fund you'd probably do it to, right?
So you can imagine I enjoyed this morning's TU story quite a bit.
ALBANY -- Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno used state-regulated campaign funds to pay for his stay at an exclusive south Florida hotel last year, during a three-day trip he has described as "a vacation."

His staff, too, initially insisted the trip was private.

However, state law makes "the personal use of contributions received by a candidate or political committee" a crime "if such personal use is unrelated to a political campaign or the holding of a public office or party position."
I find it odd that I knew this last year and now its just being looked into. Perhaps the times are changing.

a bit hard on Soares.

I mean, can you not imagine the huge backlog of crimes he's investigating?

The DA was just probably giving Joe some time to resign before he went for the throat.

Joe should get his developer buddy to build him an island in the middle of his kid's Grafton wetlands - so we can exile him to it.

His own little Elba, ala his idol, Napolean.

my girl liz B hooked me up with the info.  It was public knowledge.  Back in the days when Bruno was above the law and everyone thought Spitzer was doomed because he called upstate Appalachia, the hubris was running strong and clear.

At the time they were saying he was at fundraisers while he was down there so it was ok.  However, they weren't fundraisers for his campaign.  It all seemed like a real stretch to me at the time.   And that was before i knew about the strippers.

I love in today's article where they say something like, "the feds are also looking into why Abruzzee (sp?) paid several hundred grand to Bruno for consulting".   Yeah, i bet they are.  I'm pretty confident the only consulting old man Bruno did was along the lines of "the brunette has nice tits but i recommend the blonde".   Not sure that is worth a few hundred grand.

No Accounting For That (none / 0) (#4)

Last evening the local stations ran a brief clip about Plastic Jo's trip.  In the news clip it mentioned that, as part of Jo's trip was a visit to a strip bar. The reason the purpose of the trip has changed from public to private is accounting.  Seems like NY just went through this just recently with the Comptroller.

The news did not report the details of the strip bar visit, however, I have been told that they can be very expensive.  I don't think that Mr. Bruno would want to itemize things that strip bars are known to have such as the number of alcoholic beverages, lap dances, etc.  That is an invoice no one wants to see on a public expense account. What people do with their own time should be private.
