Wondering what the city streets are like. Have seen two cars go by all morning!

A neighbor wrecked her car this morning on one of the bridges.

I always just assume the highways are in better shape than the neglected streets of Albany.

MLK Day (none / 0) (#4)

Overheard WROW's Paul Vandenburg expressing displeasure with MLK Day this AM, on his show.  He calls MLK a "good guy" but not worthy of a "Federal" holiday. Must be he thinks a prerequisite to be honored in the USA, for patriotism, is a white skin... Of, course, like his heros in the White House, he has never served a day for Uncle Sam, in the military...or similar organization. So what does he really know.

Then again, maybe Paulie just got back from doing his radio show in Phoenix, rather than Las Vegas, do you think?

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. "

...Content of their character...

While I think that there should be a day to honor civil rights leaders I am not sure that a day dedicated to one man, a deeply flawed man, is right. If you read about his personal life, the relationship with his family and his lapse in acedemic honesty and then hold it up to the "dream" maybe you would find yourself agreeing with Paul.

Many men and women have fought for racial equality. Many have contributed more than MLK. And there is more to race than black and white.

We now have "Presidents Day" why not "Civil Rights Day?"
