Albany 's Funniest Home Videos

The play by play from the Times Union with commentary in parenthesis:
His hands are still cuffed behind him and his feet are pointing straight out into the air. (mildly amusing, probably won't get any laughs)

As Geraci drags him out of the vehicle, Behrmann bangs his torso on an attached metal step. He hits his face and chin next. (oooohh...chin on metal truck bumper...now that is going to get the audience going...extra points for doing it while handcuffed)

Behrmann lands half on the floor, and half on the step. Geraci picks him up and slams him toward the edge of the open booking-room door, head first. (kind of anti-climatic)
Not sure if this one is going to win the $10,000 prize but it apparently was a crowd pleaser.
Geraci laughs with the other cops and then smiles broadly by the video camera.
Roll credits:
Geraci walks away from Behrmann, who is sitting on the bench, and then returns with a roll of toilet paper. He uses it to sop up the blood from Behrmann's arms after he uncuffs him. A female officer pushes a large trash barrel closer so Geraci can discard the bloody paper as he works. Albany EMTs arrive shortly after.
Meanwhile, Cheryl Coleman says that we may have an image problem here.
His attorney, Cheryl Coleman, said the video does not accurately convey what occurred. "It's a series of disjointed, jumpy segments," she said. "We know the actions and words that preceded it and followed it."
Definitely an image problem, wouldn't you agree?

Meanwhile back in the court of accountability
The 28-year-old son of Schenectady Police Chief Michael Geraci, who faces a misdemeanor assault charge and a felony false report charge, was arraigned at noon after surrendering to internal affairs officers about an hour earlier.

A phalanx of off-duty colleagues filled four rows behind him and lined the walls of the city courtroom. About a dozen uniformed cops lined up shoulder to shoulder directly behind Geraci and his attorney, Cheryl Coleman, to shield them from view of news cameras.
If only they could of been there to shield him from that other camera, we never would've had to worry our beautiful minds about all this nastiness.

Update [2006-5-3 7:6:13 by DIA]: The video is now up on the TU site.

find this story.

Yesterday, in my second in my life trip to city court to support a friend, I heard the lawyer scuttlebutt about this situation..... how Geraci was assigned to booking because there are CAMERAS, after problems in other assignments..... they (police) thought it would help him control himself.

Cheryl Coleman is a great lawyer and he'll come out fine.

But gosh this sure is Smallbany, and I need a change.

sounds like if a jury sees that video, coleman might not be able to lawyer her client out of this.   But stranger things have happened.

Stranger things have happened, except it's not so strange for lawyers to change it around.

And videos, like protests, are odd.  People make connections and see things they don't know they are getting wrong until it's spelled out.

I'm not an expert, but I've been doing this long enough to see some disconnect between our eyes and our minds, what we make of it.  It doesn't matter most of the time, except in court when someone's fighting it.

How come you have only been to city court twice if your an attorney?  Oh right, sorry stupid of me. Defence lawyers would know the city courts.

Class actions are in a different building.

try the tramatized civil claim angle but by the time I concocted a good enough story I was laughing so hard that I just knew it wouldn't work.
