I think we all owe Albany County legislative leader Frank Commisso a big debt of gratitude:
"This is a transparent effort by the district attorney to shelter his $81,600-a-year political crony from Schenectady from the county's requirement, which D'Alessandro has blatantly ignored, that county employees demonstrate their commitment to serving the people of Albany County by residing within the county."Indeed. D'Alessandro is a carpetbagger. It's amazing he was allowed to work for 17 years in the Albany Police Department before getting handed this job by this crony, the DA. And listen to Commisso's fearless courage in wanting to change D'Alessandro's title from Chief Investigator to Director of Operations: Frank Commisso, Democratic majority leader and committee chairman, said at the time the new title better suited D'Alessandro since he always accompanied Soares and appeared to be a confidant.Brilliant. "appeared to be a confidant". We will have none of that! However, most of us might have been tricked by this cronyism and..well...trickery. We might think 17 years on the Albany police force working as a detective might qualify you for the job of chief investigator for the Albany County DA’s office. We’d be wrong. This is cronyism at its worse. Some of you cried foul when Mayor Jennings appointed his spokesman to be head of the Albany Planning Department claiming, after a nationwide search, that his spokesman was the most qualified person they could find to lead the planning department…despite an obvious lack of qualifications or experience…but you people who said this would be fools. While Joe Rabito "appeared to be the mayor's confidant" that was clearly just for the sake of appearances. Those two were distant. Rarely spoke. If you want to see cronyism…Frank Commisso is your man. He will show you the light. And now we can all rest easy because the Albany County legislature has spent their time and effort to change the title of someone's job. I commend Commisso for this important work he is doing. Imagine…calling this guy a chief investigator when in reality he was parading around in front of us as an operations manager. The balls of this DA and his cronies. Outright balls. At least Commisso and the always stellar Albany county legislature are on the job. We are safe once again.
