"It must be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to plan, more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to manage, than the creation of a new system. For the initiator has the enmity of all who would profit by the preservation of the old institutions and merely lukewarm defenders in those who would gain by the new ones." Machiavelli
Jennings Won't Endorse Gillibrand or SweeneyBy DIA, Section News
Mike the Friday Caller lived up to his name today (again) and gave Mayor Jennings a ring. They chatted about Jennings past fundraising and support for Republican John Sweeney. Mike inquired if Mayor Jennings would be endorsing Kirsten Gillibrand in her race against Sweeney. At this time the Mayor will not be (he has trouble endorsing Democrats in high profile races unless they are a lock. He endorsed Pataki in 2002, won't endorse Gillibrand...but he certainly has no problem supporting Clinton or Spitzer). Its a fun call. Really, the Mayor does my work for me so there is no need for any further commentary on my part. I think the term "spin" must come from an explanation like this one where someone is talking in circles. Give it a listen.
One thing that I will point out is how the mayor goes on and on about how he needs help from someone in Washington and that is why he has supported Sweeney. At no point does he mention the Democratic Congressman who actually represents Albany. Instead he works on justfying his support for a Republican congressman...who does not represent the district. Odd, that. Could it be that people like Jennings and Sweeney put their personal friendships and finances above the concerns of their party or constituents? I'm willing to entertain that possibility.
