I like this new coalition
"It's really a disgrace that we have to stand outside on a Sunday evening, instead of being at home with our families to demand that the mayor of this city treat the residents of the city with respect and honesty when it comes down to upholding the law," said Martinez.
We'll keep demanding it. But i'm not holding my breath.

Did anyone hear the WROW show on Friday? There was a caller who questioned the mayor about the gift to developers in North Albany that the locals are not fond of at all. It was classic jennings. "you need to be reasonable....my job is to bring in development...i can't talk to you because there is a lawsuit....blah...blah...blah"

Is there anyone in Albany who still likes the Mayor?

I like the Mayor Jennings.  I think that he is doing a reasonable job given the political realities of Albany.  He has brought thousands of jobs to downtown and under his leadership the once stagnant nightlife is now hopping.

When I first moved here it was during the reign of Whalen the Mediocre. Albany is a much better city now.

Does Jennings have faults? Sure. Half you guys hate the fact that he put the needs of the city above the needs of the Democratic Party.  Pataki did far better by Albany then Mario Coumo and Hugh Carey ever did.  Deal with it.

Albany has a small pool of people to hire from. Its not like he could have been elected as an outsider. Albany is a one party town and everyone that is political is in the one party and each person has its own little constituency.

If I wanted to elect a saint I certainly wouldn't find one here in Albany

.
A couple other things. If there is a lawsuit then the Mayor would be a fool to discuss what ever is the subject of the suite.  ANYONE that has ever been in a lawsuit is told not to address things publically.

Second: Its not a disgrace to stand out infront of the city hall on a sunday demanding something. Its stupid.

NO ONE IS THERE ON SUNDAY.

City hall is closed.

I really have to wonder why Martinez would protest when no one is there and everyone is more concerned about Sunday night football.

clough harbor likes the mayor (none / 0) (#2)

nothing like some big juicy corporate welfare for the holidays.   I'm sure they'll have nice holiday party at the harbor.

the fact i hate is that he puts the needs of himself and his rich friends far above the needs of the city.  he supported pataki, pataki gives his buddy led duke $5 million in our tax dollars to build a private building.

Meanwhile the common council is debating whether the city can afford to set aside $25,000 for youth programs. Is West Hill doing better than when Whalen was mayor?   Want to be you can buy a gun in the south end easier now than when Whalen was mayor?   I would argue that this column isn't a real endorsement of the great work of mayor jennings.

That is what i hate.   and I don't think hate is too strong a word.   handing out all of our tax dollars as gifts to rich corporations while our neighborhoods continue to go deeper into the shitter.

And you can't contain it forever.  its getting closer to the people who aren't going to accept it.   Where is the mayor talking about the problem of gun violence in this city?   He is not.

I have a problem with the city, the state and sham orginizations like "Community Preservation" giving money out to big bucks types. You know I also feel differently when it is money designed to spur on development.

Take an old factory and develop a business incubator. I am not a fan of taxing hotels to build another hotel to compete with them.

I was walking down State Street hill the other day and was wondering about the physical infastructure under it.  How old are the water mains. How old is are the electrical lines.  Yes, I can see using public money to improve the physical public infastructure to accomodate private investment.

Giving millions to DeThomas to renovate privately owned buildings to rent out at market rate?  Um, no.

I personally knew where I could buy illegal handguns on the city streets when Whalen was mayor. I traveled in a less gentile cirlce then.

I also will tell you that when I moved to this area the police had the reputation of not putting up with shit from anyone.  I watched the Troy in action one night after some drunk took a swing at one of them. I learned not to fuck with the Troy police that night.

Maybe Albany has worked a little too hard to take the fear of authority away.  Our police are afraid to police and our DA doesnt like to put people in jail.

Could the fact that we have shootings out infront of a birthday party on the businest street at the businest interection in the city be a result of the fact that it doesnt matter one damn bit if someone goes on a shooting spree? Starting with Armstead and continuing through now nothing happens with violent little bastards.

I would be interested if any of the DA's people who read and post here would be willing to provide information on and and all of the shooters whose little sprees made the paper and tell us about the police contact and their association with the DA prior to their arrests for shooting at people on our streets.

Why do I get a feeling that the same people whose gun shots I can hear have already proved Soares policies a failure and made our streets MORE dangerous?  Prove me wrong. Post the police and DA records.

How can anyone be critical of our public school district? We obviously need to throw more money at that problem.
