Hmmm...Very interesting, if true. How does one anticpate two candidates vying for the same office to work out a compromise? A co-chairmanship? "You have the first six months...I'll take the remainder of the year?" Any rumors? Any thoughts?
The comments about the county committee splitting seems very real...the only problem is...who will organize a city committee? If Jennings tries to do it..I, for one, don't think it will be too successful or last very long. His brother used to do his leg work but he quit and retired to Florida, didn't he?
He, Jennings, has been mayor long enough to have built quite a long list of political enemies. Who would he designate as chairperson, Betty Barnette, again? How about Joe Montana or the D'Antonio brothers? Oh, brother! Hold onto your "you know what"!
Lottsa people don't even consider Jennings to be a Democrat any more, having supported Republicans like he has...He's a maverick independent in many a Democrat's eyes.
As for Breslin, he too has been around for more than a decade so he has his share of enemies too, especially in the city of Albany. What happens if he decides to retire or take an appointment from the new governor? Will Dave Bosworth, his purported puppet, automatically fall, if he is Breslin's chairman? And, Breslin is really an arch conservative in Democrat's clothing. That won't sit well with liberals and progressive Democrats in the city, will it?
Sounds to me like the County Democrats are trying to kill the golden goose! Their overwhelming success against the Republicans has made them turn on each other, and turn on their fellow city Dems...
Some other instantaneous thoughts about the future...
Come election time...do county committee people do campaign work in the city wards, for city candidates. For themselves?
Will candidates seeking endiorsements for city races have to go to two committees?
Who would be the designated ward leader in each ward? Someone from the county committee or the city committee? Would there be two ward leaders in each ward, from each organization? What a mess!!
IMO,this judge here must be a Republican!
But, then again, the committee system, in Albany, has been languishing for a long time...this might just be the straw that breaks the camel's back in so far as traditional, organized city politics is concerned. It looks like it could be every man, woman and child for themselves...from now on.
I just can't imagine Guilderland's Dave Bosworth wading into some of the neighborhood political structures and issues with his middle class, suburban background. He will be completely out of his league in that kind of element..especially if there are forces at work trying to undermine him...good night, Irene..and good luck Mr. Bosworth.
ps. I think Commisso would do a good job, if given the opportunity. Why? Because he understands city politics better than anybody does, and he is a worker...He won't ask anyone to do anything that he himself hasn't already done.
