Sweeney the Sore Loser

No one denies he was knocking his wife around the house. No one denies the report was real. And no one denies this probably cost him the election. No one denies he took illegal money from Abramoff to take a trip to the Mariannas. For a man who has never been accountable for anything, its not surprising Sweeney was using his state police connections to cover up his misdeeds and is trying to get payback. Lame.

Sorry, bad joke.

Anyway - the TU puts this tidbit in paragraph 16 of the linked story.

On Oct. 27, 11 days before the election, the Times Union obtained a copy of the 911 report from a confidential source. Pace was not the source.

Seems like this should have been a bit more prominent, given that plenty of commenters have been using Pace's demotion as ironclad evidence of his guilt.  According to those people, the demotion couldn't possibly have been a political move by people within the State PD.

From beyond the political grave, the zombie Sweeney is still a hack and a scumbag.

The source wasnt Pace because the TU said so.

One doens't rise to a prestigious and high profile NYSP job in the Capital District media market, which is precisely what the position of Troop G BCI Captain is, if one is a hot-headed, conniving loose cannon.

Just what does a media market have to do with being Captain of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation?

Lets be honest here. Who ever leaks police documents and police reports should be fired.

whoever covers up or "scrubs" clean a politician's police record should be fired.

Or do you think that its ok that if politicians do something wrong that the public should know because it might be "used for political purposes".

If Sweeney got special treatment, and it sure seems like he did (and we know he did when he crashed his jeep after drinking), then the highers up who did it should all be fired.

I thought it was funny that the state police did two different versions of the incident report- fearing that the original would be used for political purposes and "locked it up."

This really bothers me because the SP basically are admitting that they have no control over the illegal release of information.  It also boths me that the original "locked up one" was the one released and then the sanitized one.

Here is what I fear:

1) This shows that no information is safe with the State Police and their BCI.  If the "locked up" report is accessable then what else is? Confidential informer information? Stake out reports? Financial records of people investgated and cleared?

2) Leaking personal information will make people reluctant to call the police  Its one thing to call the police when you are having a dispute. Its another thing when you fear that your family's dirty laundry will be aired in public.

The issue isnt about Sweeney. Its about leaking documents.  Someone thinks that it was important enough to violate the public trust- great- have him come forward and proclaim that he did it.  And then fire him. If the PEOPLE (and aparently there was more that went into the files after the "lockd up one" was released) who gave out the sanitized version want to come forward and proclaim that they did it- great.  Fire them as well.

If they don't come forward then get the FBI in to do an investigation. And then fire them.

The BCI Captain is the Troop Commander's right hand.  Whoever is G Troop Commander is a fair-haired boy on his way up the NYSP ladder.  Two of the past three superintendents served in that post.  As to the media market issue, there are troops all over the state that don't get much attention.  Troop G has the highest media profile of all of them.

I will freely admit that this is rank specualtion, but:

Sweeney's original strategy was to call the leaked report a fake.  This strategy was probably based on one of two things.

One, that Sweeney was confident that the S.P. would never officially release the report, and that he could therefore say whatever he wanted, that the report was written in green ink and in hieroglyphics - whatever.

Two, Sweeney knew from his inside S.P. guys that, as the TU reported, there was a clean version of the report and a detailed version of the report, and that the detailed version was "locked down."  Did Sweeney know all this, and that's why he felt he could present this whole "fake document" thing?

And remember, too, that a stripped down version of the report made its way to the media (Ch 10, I think) the day before the election.  Was that a leak by Sweeney allies in the S.P. to confuse the issue, to mitigate the damage of the original leak?

Rank speculation can be fun.

"Knocking your spouse around the house" - not fun.

Rumor has it Sweeney is selling his house in Clifton Park and relocating to DC to take a lobbying job on K Street.  His new spouse isn't happy here and wants to go back to her hometown.  She knows the DC cops will show up if he gets "fisty" again.  Oops!  I meant "fiesty".
My bad.
